Hai Phong invests nearly 2,000 billion VND to build 3 important traffic intersections

The investment project to build the intersection between Bui Vien Street and Le Hong Phong Street ( Hai Phong City) has a total investment of more than 707 billion VND, from the City budget. In which, there is a construction item for the Bui Vien underpass. The project is expected to start construction in the fourth quarter of 2025.

The project is being built in Hai An ward, using 5 hectares of existing traffic infrastructure land. The investor is the Hai Phong Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board. Implementation period is 2024 - 2027.

The project will invest in the complete construction of the first-floor traffic intersection in the form of a roundabout, with a 30-meter-wide radius. On Bui Vien Street, an underpass will be built in the direction of Bui Vien Street, permanently designed with reinforced concrete, 485 meters long (of which the closed tunnel is 125 meters long with 6 lanes, 27.7 meters wide, and a speed of 70 km/h).

For Le Hong Phong and Ngo Gia Tu routes, the current status and design will be maintained. In addition, infrastructure works on the route will be built, including: drainage system, tunnel drainage pumping station, lighting, trees and traffic safety.

The project was implemented to help overcome traffic congestion and ensure traffic safety for vehicles passing through the intersection of Bui Vien - Le Hong Phong and Ngo Gia Tu. The project helps reduce traffic on National Highway 5 through the inner city and other routes.

Hai Phong City continues to allocate 675 billion VND to invest in the construction of the intersection of Bui Vien and Vo Nguyen Giap streets to overcome traffic congestion and conflicts here. The project is being implemented in An Bien and Le Chan wards, using 5 hectares of land. This is a group B project, a level 1 traffic project, implemented in the period 2024 - 2027.

Regarding the scale of investment, the first-floor traffic intersection will be completed in the form of a roundabout, with a radius of 30 m. Along Bui Vien Street, an underpass will be built, permanently designed with reinforced concrete with a total length of 485 m. Of which, the closed tunnel is 125 m long, 27 m wide with 6 lanes, and a design speed of 70 km/h.

Vo Nguyen Giap Street remains in its current state, designed to smoothly connect with the roundabout. Construct technical infrastructure works on the route such as: drainage system, tunnel drainage pumping station, lighting, trees and traffic safety.

When completed, the Bui Vien - Le Hong Phong intersection will not only reduce traffic congestion but also create a highlight in urban architecture.

The project is implemented to contribute to the completion of the traffic system in An Bien ward and Le Chan ward according to the approved planning; to overcome traffic congestion and ensure traffic safety for vehicles when passing through the intersection between Bui Vien street and Vo Nguyen Giap street. At the same time, it helps to reduce traffic volume on National Highway 5 through the inner city and other routes.

In reality, the Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong intersection has a high traffic density, especially during rush hours. In particular, when the Nguyen Trai bridge project is completed, it will increase traffic from the direction of Nguyen Trai bridge to the intersection with the main axis going in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong, leading to increased traffic conflicts, potential risks of congestion and traffic insecurity.

To reduce traffic conflicts, increase the traffic capacity of the intersection in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong to Cat Bi airport, and at the same time ensure the synchronization and smoothness of traffic in the area, the City People's Committee has just issued a decision to approve the adjustment of component project 1: construction of works belonging to the Nguyen Trai Bridge Construction Investment Project and urban beautification of the surrounding area.

Accordingly, the additional construction investment scale includes: Renovation of the different-level intersection at the 6-way intersection between Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong - Da Nang - Le Loi - Le Lai with a direct tunnel in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong; widening the road surface on both sides of the tunnel and organizing traffic at the same level in the form of a 40m diameter roundabout. The road branches leading to the intersection are connected according to the current status.

Specifically, the underpass construction in the direction of Nguyen Trai - Le Hong Phong street has a total length of 340 m, including: a closed tunnel about 120 m long, an open tunnel on Nguyen Trai street about 100 m long and an open tunnel on Le Hong Phong street about 120 m long. The tunnel cross-section is arranged in accordance with the cross-section of Nguyen Trai bridge to ensure 6 lanes, including 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for mixed vehicles. Complete construction of technical infrastructure items in the intersection: pumping station system, drainage, lighting, trees, traffic safety system...

The project is implemented in Ngo Quyen and Gia Vien wards, using nearly 5 hectares of land. The total investment for the intersection is 565.2 billion VND.

With this adjustment, the total investment of Component Project 1: construction of works under the Nguyen Trai Bridge Construction Investment Project and urban beautification of the surrounding area increased to 4,981.4 billion VND (an increase of more than 565 billion VND compared to the previous decision). The interchange is expected to be completed and put into operation when Nguyen Trai Bridge is officially opened to traffic.

The Nguyen Trai Bridge construction investment project and urban beautification of the surrounding area has a total investment of 6,235.5 billion VND. As of September 13, the construction volume reached 25.1% of the contract value, including 2 main construction packages: Package 15 (construction of approach bridges, access roads and intersections) reached 707.4/1,435 billion VND (45.4%); Package 14 (construction of main cable-stayed bridge) reached 248/2,367 billion VND (10.4%).
