On August 24, the Khmer Times (Cambodia) reported that Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin had a phone call with his Cambodian counterpart Hun Manet on the evening of August 23 – a day after both were elected.

During the phone call, the two leaders congratulated each other on being elected prime minister on the same day, August 22nd.
Hun Manet affirmed: "Both governments are committed to strengthening friendship and cooperation, especially between the people of our two countries."
Sharing on social media platform X on the same day, former Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said: "It was a beautiful day, when two neighboring countries with constitutional monarchies together welcomed their new prime ministers."
At the same time, Mr. Hun Sen expressed his hope that the two new leaders would work together to further promote cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Srettha, 61, of the Pheu Thai (For Thailand) party, was elected Prime Minister of Thailand after receiving majority support from Parliament in a vote on August 22.
Earlier that same day, Hun Manet was also appointed as the head of state by the Cambodian National Assembly.
According to the Khmer Times , Kin Phea, Director General of the Institute of International Relations at the Royal Academy of Cambodia, believes that Cambodia-Thailand relations will be boosted through the two new prime ministers.
