According to a Guardian article on December 13, the removal and restriction of content began in October and targeted the Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp accounts of more than 50 organizations worldwide , some of which serve tens of thousands of people.

The British newspaper suggests that this appears to be a growing effort by Meta to restrict content about reproductive health and the LGBTQ+ community on its platforms. Many of these accounts originate from Europe and the UK, however, the ban also affects groups serving women in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
Repro Uncensored – a non- governmental organization that monitors digital censorship of gender equality movements – says it has recorded 210 cases of deletion or severe restriction of accounts belonging to reproductive health or LGBTQ+ groups this year, compared to 81 cases last year.
For its part, Meta denies any tendency toward escalating censorship. “Every organization and individual on our platform is bound by the same set of rules, and any allegations of enforcement based on group affiliation or political maneuvering are unfounded,” Meta said in a statement, while also asserting that its policy on abortion-related content remains unchanged.
Organizations affected by the ban include Women Help Women, a Dutch-registered non-profit that provides information on abortion to women worldwide, including in Brazil, the Philippines, and Poland. The organization's CEO, Kinga Jelinska, said they receive around 150,000 emails from women each year.
A notice from Meta sent to Women Help Women on November 13 stated that their page “does not comply with our Community Standards for prescription drugs,” adding: “We know this is disappointing, but we want to keep Facebook safe and friendly for everyone.”
