Nearly 3,000 students from Bac Phu, Tan Hung and Viet Long Primary Schools (Da Phuc Commune, Hanoi ) have access to safe drinking water every day at school through three solar-powered water filtration systems; study and play at the mini soccer field and green library; nearly 1,200 students from these three schools also participated in contributing initiatives to prevent, combat and handle school violence through the communication campaign "Beautiful Friendship - Say No to School Violence"; 500 students from families in difficult circumstances participated in the "Children's Ambassador" program, connecting directly with sponsors until the end of primary school...
These are some of the results of the Project "Building safe and quality schools for children in Soc Son district, Hanoi city" implemented by ActionAid International in Vietnam (ActionAid), the Program Support Fund, Social Security Project in Vietnam (AFV) and local partners from 2021 to 2025 in Soc Son district (old), now Da Phuc commune, Hanoi with a total budget of 10.5 billion VND sponsored by the Taiwan (China) Fund for Children and Families (TFCF).
With the goal of accessing quality education and a safe, inclusive learning environment, the Project is implemented with 6 components: Building safe, inclusive schools; improving school mental health; preventing waterborne diseases and improving school health care; improving the quality of educational facilities and school equipment; improving the quality of extracurricular activities integrating social education topics; and the Children's Ambassador program.
The project components were implemented specifically and usefully with schools and students, helping children and adolescents, especially those in difficult circumstances, to be supported to develop their potential; protected from violence, exploitation and abuse; and involved in decision-making so that their wishes, priorities and rights become an integral part of policies, programs and decisions.

Teacher Hoang Van Tu, Principal of Tan Hung Primary School, said: “In addition to practical and specific support in infrastructure such as water filtration systems, libraries, computer rooms, etc., the project has helped teachers, students and families raise awareness and take practical actions to protect school mental health, build a learning environment, including a safe and inclusive digital space. With the support of sponsors TFCF, ActionAid and AFV, we will strive to maintain and replicate the results that the project has achieved for the school.”
According to Ms. Huang Ya Ke, Country Director of the Taiwan (China) Foundation for Children and Families, the Foundation chose to sponsor the project for two reasons. Firstly, Soc Son (formerly) is a sustainable partner of ActionAid Vietnam and secondly, it wants to narrow the gap between inner-city and suburban schools in Hanoi, so that students can access and develop equally.
“Besides education, we also implement projects related to nutrition and health care in Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho and Ho Chi Minh City. In the future, we will continue to expand projects in Can Tho”, Ms. Huang Ya Ke shared.
Nguyen Ha My, class 5A1, said that she and her friends get to study and play on a mini soccer field, drink clean water, participate in communication sessions, and learn more about preventing school violence and building beautiful friendships. All of these things help her and her friends love their school, teachers, and friends more.
Ms. Hoang Phuong Thao, Chief Representative of ActionAid in Vietnam, shared that, in parallel with the project in Hanoi, ActionAid and AFV also coordinated with TFCF and local authorities to implement a similar project in Binh Tan District (old), Ho Chi Minh City to build safe and inclusive schools, improve school mental health, prevent waterborne diseases, improve the quality of educational facilities, and help promote the comprehensive development of children, especially in poor and near-poor urban areas.
This is an effort of TFCF, ActionAid and AFV to contribute to the implementation of goal number 4 "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education; promote lifelong learning opportunities for all" among the 17 sustainable development goals for the period 2015 - 2030 set by the United Nations General Assembly.
