Attending the ceremony, on the guest side was Mr. Trinh Mai Phuong, Head of Communications Department of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN). The leaders of the co-organizing units were Mr. Pham Quoc Bao, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVNHCMC; Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, General Director; and Mr. Bui Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC.
On the side of Thanh Nien Newspaper, there were journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper; journalist Duc Trung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief; and Ms. Le Phuoc Thanh Binh, Director of Thanh Nien Newspaper Advertising and Media Services Center.
Talking about the practical meaning of the writing contest right from the name, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan shared: "After the rains, the outdoor air in Ho Chi Minh City has cooled down a bit, but in other provinces and cities, especially in the Central and Northern regions, the weather is still complicated. Many hydroelectric reservoirs are nearing the dead water level, rivers and streams in many places are gradually drying up, along with the El Nino phenomenon predicted to return at the end of this year, all of which warn of a potential power shortage in the dry season, if each of us, each family is not aware of saving electricity."
Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan affirmed: "Not only in Vietnam, to solve the energy problem in the context of low energy self-sufficiency, many countries such as Belgium, France, and Japan are also calling on people to "tighten their belts" to save electricity. In addition to giving advice on using or replacing electrically efficient equipment, countries also suggest to "smart" consumers to know how to choose suitable equipment and products in the living space, calculate annual profits and payback period when using. Using air conditioners and refrigerators according to the manufacturer's instructions along with "tips" to save electricity, does not harm health, and saves money. Through the contest, Thanh Nien Newspaper and EVNHCMC hope to gather many good stories and effective actions on saving electricity, proven from the reality of households, offices, businesses... for everyone to refer to and learn".
Egyptian model and beauty queen Truong Ngoc Anh (middle) with Mr. Bui Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of EVNHCMC (second from left) and Mr. Nguyen Kim Chau, Deputy Director of Majestic Hotel (second from right) share experiences in saving electricity.
According to Mr. Pham Quoc Bao: " The Prime Minister has a directive on enhancing electricity saving in the period of 2020 - 2025; The Official Dispatch of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on promoting electricity saving and ensuring safe and stable electricity supply in the area during the dry season and 2023, proves that the work of saving and using electricity effectively needs to be joined hands so that everyone and every household has enough electricity to use."
N FAMOUS PEOPLE UNITED TO SAVE ELECTRICITY
At the contest launch ceremony, guests were typical families and businesses that save electricity in Ho Chi Minh City, along with famous artists who also shared many interesting experiences about saving electricity.
Ms. Nguyen Tong Y Nhi (at 134/1/18F Cach Mang Thang Tam, District 3) said: "Every time the ward or electricity company sends leaflets to residential areas, I filter out the most understandable information and guide my family to follow it in order. I divide the time of electricity usage into peak and off-peak hours and write it on paper and stick it in the most visible places in the laundry or cooking areas. Everyone can see it, so the money I save every month helps me cover many other expenses very effectively."
Mr. Nguyen Kim Chau, Deputy Director of Majestic Hotel, talked about the initiative of using solar energy to replace grid electricity quite effectively, when almost all hot water supply equipment and LED lighting system of the hotel use solar batteries.
Egyptian model and beauty queen Truong Ngoc Anh is a public figure, participating in many fields and being successful; but despite her high income, the beauty is always conscious of saving electricity. "With devices that are used frequently and consume a lot of electricity, I often clean them. If anyone in the house saves electricity well, there will be rewards and punishments. For example, if my daughter or grandchild forgets to turn off the fan or light, I will remind them, and if the children do well, they will be rewarded. If anyone in the house wastes electricity, I will be fined 10,000 VND, although not much, but it is something to remember. When it is hot, I often take advantage of the open space outside by opening all the doors to get light and wind..., if I spend less time in an air-conditioned room, my body will be healthier when exposed to natural air, and I will also reduce the amount of electricity I have to pay. I think simply, I have to save electricity so that everyone has electricity to use."
Talking about saving, comedian Minh Nhi remembers his parents. "When I was young, I was often scolded for not knowing how to save. Now that I've grown up and understand, I'm more aware, and I teach my students very strictly. I have a nice director's room with modern equipment, but if I go to the stage on hot days like recently, you guys will feel sorry for Minh Nhi sitting in the lobby drinking iced tea. The reason that few people expect is to... not turn on the air conditioner. I'm a good example, so I teach my students to listen. Whoever turns on the fan and doesn't turn it off right away, I'll remind them right away when I see it on the camera."
To make saving electricity a habit, poet Le Minh Quoc emphasized: "Habits are formed from personality. Personality changes destiny, that's why educating and propagating awareness of saving electricity, in my opinion, is a regular and continuous task, must form a way of thinking for young people: Unanimously with the electricity industry/All people join hands/Always remember/If not in use, turn it off immediately/Save all gas/Save to the maximum/When it's hot, it must be cool/From the habits of each household".
The writing contest "Saving electricity into a habit" is very important in promoting and mobilizing people, agencies, organizations and businesses to join hands in regularly practicing saving electricity, to make it a daily habit. The entries selected for periodic publication on Thanh Nien Newspaper's media channels are truly practical and effective electricity saving measures that organizations and individuals have successfully applied in their families and organizations. And more importantly, it is the effectiveness of promoting the habit of using electricity economically for the entire social community.
