In fact, chili plants once appeared and made a strong impression in the old Cao Ky commune, where the heavy chili crop brought joy and prosperity to many households. Following that success, in 2025, the Provincial Center for Agricultural Extension and Environment decided to deploy the model of "Intensive chili cultivation according to the product consumption chain" in Thanh Thinh, Tan Ky and Thanh Mai, with a scale of 15 hectares in this area.
Mrs. Trieu Thi Thu (Quyet Thang village, Tan Ky commune) quickly tied the plants and shared: In the past, growing chili was very effective, but due to lack of technique, there were some crops and some not. Looking at the fields now, they are completely different, more systematic, and there is more hope.
According to calculations, each hectare of chili can yield an average of 15 tons, with a price of 15,000-17,000 VND/kg, bringing in an income of 200-250 million VND/crop, 3-4 times higher than rice cultivation. However, as many farmers shared, the efficiency was previously "as unstable as the rain and sunshine" because people had to manage and find their own outlets.
Unlike previous spontaneous crop seasons, this year’s model brings a new vitality. The Center for Agricultural Extension and Environment not only supports quality seeds and fertilizers but also guides each household on care techniques, pest control, timing of topping and watering. In the fields, technical staff go to each row, holding each chili plant to guide the farmers.

The most important point and what makes people feel secure is to link consumption with businesses right from the beginning of the season. Ms. Ngoc Thi Phung, a technical officer of the Center, said: The model aims to increase productivity to 20-25 tons/ha, an increase of 30-40% compared to the traditional method. With businesses purchasing, people no longer worry about falling prices or difficulty selling. When the season comes, they collect and deliver, very clearly.
After more than 4 months, the chili fields are covered in a uniform green color, with more fruit and fewer pests. The small roads leading to the fields are increasingly crowded as people take advantage of each morning to go down to the fields to check and take care of them.
Vice Chairman of Tan Ky Commune People's Committee Bui Nguyen Quynh assessed: The model creates higher income, contributing to changing people's production mindset from each person doing it alone to cooperation, from fragmentation to commodity production. When people, technical staff and businesses work together, agricultural production will be more effective and sustainable.
On the gentle slopes of the fields, the chili plants are growing day by day, demonstrating a new direction. The model is opening up opportunities to build raw material areas and move towards forming a chili brand typical of the Northern Thai Nguyen region. The initial signals make people believe that chili plants will become a sustainable source of livelihood, not just a crop.
