The level of Vietnam Olympic Games is still far behind that of Iran Olympic Games.
Vietnam Olympic team was completely overwhelmed by their Iranian counterparts in the second match of Group B of the 19th Asian Games men's football at Linping Stadium (Hangzhou, China) on the evening of September 21. Coach Hoang Anh Tuan's team only had two shots on target, while Iran continuously "bombarded" goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan's goal and scored 4 goals.
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan commented: "I repeatedly reminded my players to focus when playing, but they could not do well under the pressure of strong opponents. The players need to know how to catch the rhythm of the game well and gain control of the game from the first minutes. As for the mistakes made in this tournament, they must know how to fix and correct them to improve."
Coach Hoang Anh Tuan hopes his students will have more opportunities to compete in high-level arenas.
Iran's ball control and diverse attacking style of play helped them gain 3 convincing points and rise to the top of Group B, securing a place in the round of 16. Meanwhile, Vietnam's Olympic team needs at least a draw in the final round to have a chance of advancing to the next round.
After losing to Iran, coach Hoang Anh Tuan pointed out the weaknesses of the Vietnam Olympic team and hoped that his players would forget this defeat and prepare for the decisive match with Saudi Arabia.
The coach from Khanh Hoa shared: "Olympic Iran completely dominated this match and deservedly won. The Vietnamese Olympic players are very young, still have a lot of time to develop and this is a big lesson for them."
Mr. Tuan also affirmed that the Vietnam Olympic team still has a chance to achieve the goal of reaching the round of 16 and emphasized that his students deserve to be given more opportunities to compete because they are young and need time to mature.
"Remember, Vietnam Olympic is the youngest team in this tournament. We need time, we need more playgrounds like this for young players to challenge themselves and develop. We have a long-term vision, looking towards the future. Vietnamese football is focusing on the 2026 and 2030 World Cup qualifiers. Therefore, we need to act for young players. This is also the project and strategy of VFF" - Coach Hoang Anh Tuan expressed his opinion.
