The implementation of electronic medical records aims to optimize record management and improve the quality of medical services; especially, patient medical information is stored online, helping medical staff to easily access, diagnose more accurately, and reduce work pressure for medical staff working at the hospital.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Professor, Dr. Le Van Quang, Director of K Hospital said: Implementing the direction of the Government, the Ministry of Health and other ministries and branches, recognizing the important role and tasks in healthcare, K Hospital pays special attention to the issue of digital transformation in the professional field as well as administrative procedures. In the past time, the hospital has upgraded the entire hospital information system and storage system to serve the pilot implementation of electronic medical records at the facilities. At the same time, officers and employees of departments and units of the hospital have proactively arranged their work, updated professional work applications to ensure progress, and be ready to serve patients when implementing the electronic medical records system.
On April 1, 2025, K Hospital began piloting electronic medical records at facility 1. Then, in June 2025, the hospital continued to pilot at facility 2. After evaluating the successful pilot process, K Hospital reviewed and gradually resolved arising issues, and on July 4, 2025, electronic medical records were deployed throughout the hospital. The implementation of electronic medical records to replace paper medical records brings many benefits to patients and medical staff, contributing to cost savings, improving productivity and quality of medical examination and treatment.

Professor, Dr. Le Van Quang added that electronic medical records are a useful solution, bringing many practical benefits to people and the health sector such as: Electronic medical records help save a significant amount of time for patients, instead of having to wait a long time at the hospital, patients can register for an appointment online via phone or mobile application.
Next, information management also becomes more efficient as all patient records are stored synchronously, helping doctors easily access and track medical examination and treatment history, thereby making more accurate diagnoses; helping to reduce costs when there is no need to print records, papers and films.
In addition, electronic medical records also allow data to be linked between medical facilities, helping patients avoid having to repeat existing tests. In particular, electronic medical records also enhance transparency in health insurance management, reducing complicated administrative procedures.

According to the Ministry of Health, a medical record is a collection of data, including personal information, medical examination results, paraclinical results, functional test results, diagnosis, treatment, care and other relevant information during the patient's treatment process at a medical examination and treatment facility.
The establishment and updating of electronic medical records of patients at medical examination and treatment facilities must ensure full information as prescribed in Chapter X of Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT of the Ministry of Health detailing a number of articles of the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment 2023.
Notably, the Ministry of Health requires medical examination and treatment facilities licensed to operate as hospitals to deploy electronic medical records no later than September 30, 2025.
For other medical examination and treatment facilities with inpatients, day care and outpatients, deploy electronic medical records, to be completed no later than December 31, 2026.
