On November 24-25, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) continued to deploy a series of emergency support activities for union members and workers in Khanh Hoa and Gia Lai - two localities that suffered heavy losses due to floods and storm No. 13. The gifts, funding and timely sharing are expected to help workers overcome difficulties soon, stabilize their lives and return to production.
Support for workers in Khanh Hoa
On the morning of November 25, at the People's Committee of Nam Nha Trang Ward (Khanh Hoa Province), Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan presented 1 billion VND in emergency support to union members and workers severely affected by the recent floods. Vice President Huynh Thanh Xuan emphasized the need for Khanh Hoa Trade Unions at all levels to quickly take action to help union members stabilize their lives soon, especially in areas that suffered great losses in property and living conditions.

During the program, 40 union members and workers of the two wards of Nam Nha Trang and Tay Nha Trang received direct support, each person received 2 million VND from the General Confederation of Labor's budget. In addition, many union units across the country also joined hands to send significant resources to Khanh Hoa: Hai Phong Labor Federation supported 200 million VND, Bac Ninh Labor Federation 150 million VND, Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation 100 million VND and Thanh Hoa Labor Federation 100 million VND.
On November 21, in Hanoi, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held a launching ceremony to support people affected by storms and floods. At the launching ceremony, many agencies, organizations and units joined hands to support people in flood-affected areas with an amount of over 112.6 billion VND, of which the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor donated 4 billion VND. |
Immediately after the support ceremony, Vice President Huynh Thanh Xuan visited the family of union member Phan Thi Kim Hong (HTH Production - Trading Co., Ltd., Dien Phu Industrial Park). Ms. Hong's family suffered a collapsed house wall after the flood receded, and their belongings were severely damaged. Before that, the flood water rose almost to the roof, forcing the whole family to climb onto the roof to avoid the disaster. Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan presented 2 million VND in support and requested the Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor to promptly complete the documents to consider supporting the construction of a Union Shelter for union member Phan Thi Kim Hong.
According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoa, Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor, initial statistics show that about 7,000 union members and workers were affected by the flood. The province has allocated more than 9.5 billion VND in emergency support, of which 2 million VND/person is for cases of severe damage from the General Confederation of Labor; 2 billion VND to support union members whose houses were damaged; the remaining cases are supported with 1 million VND/person.

Gia Lai overcomes the consequences of natural disasters
Previously, on November 24, at Duc Toan Company Limited (Phu Tai Industrial Park, Quy Nhon Bac Ward, Gia Lai Province), the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor presented 1 billion VND in emergency aid to union members and workers affected by storm No. 13 and the recent floods. Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan attended and directly presented the aid funds.
Here, 62 union members and employees of Duc Toan Company Ltd. received support of 2 million VND/person from the General Confederation of Labor's budget. Many other support resources were also transferred to Gia Lai: Hai Phong City Labor Federation supported 200 million VND, Bac Ninh Province Labor Federation 150 million VND. After the program, Gia Lai Province Labor Federation continued to receive an additional 200 million VND from Da Nang City Labor Federation and many other units.

Standing Vice President of Gia Lai Provincial Federation of Labor Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy expressed her appreciation for the attention and encouragement from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and other provinces and cities. She affirmed that the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor is committed to allocating resources to the right subjects, for the right purposes, transparently and promptly so that workers can access support soon.
According to Ms. Thuy, Gia Lai was continuously affected by storm No. 13 and the historic flood, causing heavy losses in human lives and property, directly affecting many union members and workers. Support from the Central Government, organizations and localities across the country helps increase resources for localities to overcome the consequences and stabilize people's lives.
At the program, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan expressed his deep sympathy to the government and people of Gia Lai province for the losses caused by natural disasters. He acknowledged the proactive efforts of the Gia Lai Provincial General Confederation of Labor and all levels in promptly supporting workers to overcome difficulties, and said that the General Confederation will continue to accompany the locality in the reconstruction process.
The gifts given not only have material value but also serve as spiritual encouragement to the workers, helping them to quickly overcome the damage, stabilize their lives and return to work, contributing to the restoration of the production chain. The leaders of the General Confederation of Labor requested the Gia Lai Provincial Labor Federation to continue to closely coordinate with units, localities and enterprises to take better care of workers, thereby contributing to promoting production and business activities and supporting the province to complete socio-economic development targets.
