Support Hai Phong women to confidently start a business

Giving up her job at the hospital, Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Hue (Tu Ky commune) determined to start a business with specialized herbal products for women. After 5 years with many ups and downs, her products gradually conquered the market because of their safety and high efficiency. She is currently the Director of Thanh Hue Perfect Health Company Limited, and Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Green EU International Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company, creating jobs for 15 direct workers and hundreds of indirect workers with stable income, of which 70% are women.

Ms. Hue expressed that her entrepreneurial journey has always been accompanied by the City Women's Union. Through the Government's Project "Supporting Women Entrepreneurs for the 2017-2025 Period" (Project 939), she has been given the opportunity to participate in many specialized training programs on management, finance, especially digital technology application skills and market connection. The Association also helps businesses have the opportunity to display products, promote trade at the city and regional levels; visit models, and learn from experiences among female entrepreneurs.

In Le Chan ward, the Women's Union established a Women Entrepreneurs Club to connect, share experiences and support members in starting a business, registering trademarks, accessing markets and promoting trade. In the period 2017 - 2025, the association organized more than 50 training courses on business administration, financial skills, digital marketing, helping thousands of women gain more knowledge and confidence in developing economic models.

Chairwoman of the Ward Women's Union Nguyen Thi Minh Hong informed that the Union coordinated with the Social Policy Bank and credit institutions to manage a capital source of 125 billion VND and 11.2 billion VND from the City Development Women Support Fund for about 2,000 households to borrow. From this capital source, hundreds of women expanded production and business. Many typical models such as dry rice paper production, coconut coffee business, ornamental plants and flowers... helped members have a good income.

Sharing the same effective approach, in Cat Hai special economic zone, many economic models led by women were born and developed from Project 939, such as Cat Hai fish sauce production, beekeeping, medicinal plant cultivation, natural cosmetics production, community tourism business... According to the Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Cat Hai special economic zone Tong Thi Thuong, the association supported 35 members to start businesses, 2,200 members borrowed 187 billion VND; organized many vocational training classes to introduce jobs to more than 2,500 members, and supported 8 female heads of households to escape poverty.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Director of Song Hai Seafood Company Limited (Cat Hai) said that thanks to Project 939, the unit was able to display and connect to consume products at many fairs, festivals, and women's startup competitions. The Association also increased communication activities and promoted products on digital platforms, contributing to promoting the consumption of goods, expanding the market, and supporting members in economic development.

New direction

Comrade Nguyen Thi Thu Hien, Vice President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union; Comrade Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee awarded certificates of merit to outstanding collectives and individuals in implementing the Project.

Since implementing Project 939, the City Women's Union has identified propaganda as a key and continuous step. More than 605,000 members have been propagandized, trained, and raised awareness about entrepreneurship, employment, and economic development. 100% of full-time union officials at all levels have been trained in methods to support women in starting businesses, contributing to the formation of a core team in advising and guiding members to realize their business ideas.

Over the past 8 years, Project 939 has supported the establishment of 130 new cooperatives and cooperative groups, and helped more than 4,000 women start businesses and start businesses, exceeding the set plan by 114%, including many women from poor households, those with disabilities, and those in difficult circumstances. The City Women's Union is managing nearly 6,300 billion VND in credit for 100,000 households to borrow to develop their family economy.

Along with capital support, the association focuses on digital transformation training with more than 2,500 staff and members trained in e-commerce; 250 female entrepreneurs are guided in registering intellectual property, building brands, and promoting products online. The Women's Entrepreneurship Festival is held annually with thousands of ideas, of which more than 1,000 projects are completed and 138 ideas won city-level prizes, 10 projects entered the national final round.

With impressive results in implementing Project 939 in Hai Phong and the whole country, the Prime Minister has just approved the Project "Supporting women to start a business in the period 2026 - 2035" (Decision 2415). According to the President of the City Women's Union Pham Thi Thu Hien, in the coming time, the unions at all levels will continue to arouse the desire to start a business and get rich legitimately, develop a creative startup ecosystem, support women to participate in green business models and digital transformation.
