Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style: Vu Ban veterans study and follow Uncle Ho

The Veterans Association of Vu Ban district currently has 8,089 members. In recent years, in order to promote the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle, the Association at all levels has implemented many practical and specific tasks. From there, it has created a widespread influence, contributing to building a strong Association, completing socio-economic development goals, and strengthening national defense and security in the district.

Identifying that learning and following Uncle Ho is a regular and continuous task, from the beginning of the year, the District Veterans Association has developed a program and plan to deploy to grassroots organizations of the Association and concretize the ethical standards of veterans according to the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh. On that basis, each cadre and member registers specific tasks to strive to "follow Uncle Ho" and identifies this as one of the important criteria for evaluation and classification of emulation. In addition, the Veterans Association at all levels in the district also associates learning and following Uncle Ho with effectively implementing emulation movements and campaigns such as: "Exemplary veterans", "War veterans join hands to build new rural areas (NTM), civilized urban areas", "War veterans help each other develop the economy"; organize activities for comradeship, resolve policies for members... In the work of comradeship, the Association at all levels has organized many activities to visit, encourage, and give gifts to members and relatives when they are sick or have accidents. In 2024, the Association of War Veterans in Vu Ban district visited and presented over 300 gifts to poor and disadvantaged members; drew from the "Comradely Love" Fund and mobilized funding sources to build and repair 3 gratitude houses for members with especially difficult housing circumstances with a total value of 60.6 million VND; presented 40 study encouragement gifts, worth 23 million VND to children and grandchildren of war veterans who overcame difficulties to study well. On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Association at all levels visited, encouraged, and presented gifts to 95 poor members, policy beneficiaries, and Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. In addition, the cadres and members of the War Veterans Association in the district have actively participated in contributing to the construction of the "Fund of Gratitude", "Fund for the Poor", "Fund for Victims of Agent Orange"... Paying attention to resolving policies for War Veterans Association members, the Association at all levels has coordinated with military agencies and related sectors to review and propose to supplement hundreds of members to receive subsidies according to Government regulations; coordinated with the district's professional department to review and carry out procedures to request to change health insurance card codes, carry out procedures to request to issue health insurance cards for members; organized for 211 cadres and members to go on vacation at Nam Dinh Provincial Rehabilitation Hospital.

Responding to the movement to build new rural areas, the Association of War Veterans at all levels in Vu Ban district has linked the movement "War Veterans join hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" with the emulation movement "Exemplary War Veterans", encouraging cadres, members and people to actively participate in building advanced, model new rural villages, hamlets and communes towards smart new rural areas. Members of the Association's grassroots units have actively contributed to building sports training areas at the cultural houses of the villages. Currently, 171/171 villages in the district have sports training areas; regularly maintaining self-managed war veteran routes in terms of environmental sanitation and traffic safety. In addition, cadres and members of the district's War Veterans Association are also exemplary in implementing the movements: "All people unite to build a cultural life", "All people protect national security"... The Association at all levels are currently effectively maintaining the models of "self-management, self-defense, self-protection". The district has 171 war veterans' groups for the people, attracting 1,329 members, dozens of mediation groups, and self-management groups with 406 members participating. There are 177 members participating in the grassroots security and order group, of which 60 war veterans are group leaders and 72 war veterans are deputy group leaders. The above groups regularly patrol, detect and promptly prevent bad elements from other places from entering the area, protecting peace for the people; participating in resolving many cases, especially urgent issues such as site clearance, resolving regimes, policies, conflicts among the people, etc., which are recognized and highly appreciated by the Party Committee, government and people.

Identifying the task of propagating and mobilizing war veterans to actively and proactively participate in building and protecting the Party and the government, and maintaining political stability as a key and regular task, the District War Veterans Association regularly pays attention to, thoroughly and fully grasps the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's policies and laws for all cadres and members; focuses on implementing democracy at the grassroots level, promptly reporting to the Party Committee for resolution, effectively performing the task of social supervision and criticism, participating in giving opinions on Party building and government building; actively fighting against corruption, waste, negativity and social evils. Along with that, the War Veterans Association at all levels also plays a pivotal role in advising leaders to promptly resolve the legitimate aspirations and wishes of the people, in order to thoroughly resolve urgent cases arising from the grassroots level, which are of public concern. In the past 5 years, the District Veterans Association at all levels has contributed over 1,000 opinions to build the Party, government, political system and socio-economic development of the district.

The highlight in studying and following Uncle Ho of the Vu Ban district war veterans is the spirit of solidarity to help each other develop the economy, reduce poverty, and improve the lives of members' families. Accordingly, the Association at all levels actively encourages war veterans and former soldiers to be self-reliant, self-reliant, dare to think, dare to do, mobilize all resources and the support of local Party committees and authorities, and take advantage of the State's support policies for war veterans to get rich. The district war veterans association is currently entrusted to borrow capital from banking channels with a total outstanding loan balance of over 37 billion VND for thousands of members. In order for the capital to be deployed effectively, the Association at all levels has coordinated with the district Social Policy Bank (CSXH) to develop a plan to inspect loan entrustment for 12 communes. The communes and towns coordinate with the CSXH Bank branches to develop plans and inspect savings and loan groups, and households borrowing according to the plan. Through assessment, households borrow for the right purpose, pay interest and principal on time. Loans have helped many households of war veteran members develop production and business effectively, stabilize their lives, and sustainably reduce poverty. The rate of poor war veteran households in the district has decreased to 0.49%; near-poor households have decreased to 0.55%; and the number of well-off and rich households has increased to 70.3%. The whole district has 10 communes without poor war veteran members, 89 farms, 32 ranches, 17 companies, and 13 enterprises owned by war veteran members, creating regular jobs for 685 workers who are war veteran members, war veteran children, and former soldiers. Every year, dozens of members are honored by the Association at all levels as good examples of war veteran production and business.

With practical actions in studying and following Uncle Ho, in 2024, 100% of the Association of War Veterans in Vu Ban district will achieve clean and strong status, 96% of the branches will achieve clean and strong status, 99% of War Veterans' Association members will meet the standards of exemplary members, 98% of War Veterans' families will meet the standards of cultural families... Thereby, continuing to affirm and enhance the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", actively contributing to the development of the homeland.
