The conference was chaired by Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission with the participation of nearly 500 delegates who are leaders and former leaders of departments, ministries, branches, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations at the Central level; leaders of provincial and municipal Party Committees; Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commissions of provincial and municipal Party Committees; Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations; Literature and Arts Associations of 63 provinces and cities, experts, scientists and 50 artists who have made great contributions to the cause of building and developing the country's literature and arts over the past 50 years.

At the conference, there were 8 presentations by scientists , intellectuals, and artists stating that over the past half century, the country's literature and arts have developed strongly, together with the Vietnamese people overcoming difficulties in the period after the country's reunification; affirming that over the past 50 years, Vietnamese literature and arts have approached the progressive trends of world literature and arts, the country's reality, created and achieved remarkable results. The presentations also proposed groups of solutions; recommendations for the Party and State to pay attention to creating new conditions and opportunities for the team of intellectuals and artists to contribute, especially in the era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, initiated and led by the Party...
Concluding the conference, comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia affirmed: Over the past 50 years, under the leadership of the Party, Vietnamese literature and arts have made strong progress and achieved important achievements. All levels, sectors and localities have organized many activities, mobilizing the participation and contributions of agencies, organizations, intellectuals, scientists and artists. However, the development of literature and arts has not been commensurate with its potential and is facing severe challenges. This reality requires summarizing 50 years of Vietnamese literature and arts; proposing directions, tasks and solutions for development in the new period, which is very necessary...

Within the framework of the conference, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism organized an exhibition with the theme: "50 years of Vietnamese literature and art accompanying the nation".
