At the conference on vocationaleducation and continuing education enrollment held on May 16, the Ministry of Education and Training said that as of December 2024, the country will have 1,886 vocational education institutions, including 399 colleges and 429 secondary schools.

In 2024, this group of schools will enroll 2.43 million people, of which 430,000 will enroll in colleges and intermediate schools. The Engineering - Technology group is the most chosen by learners - accounting for 46%, especially focusing on the fields of automotive technology, electrical technology, and information technology.

The agriculture, forestry and fishery sector accounts for 12%, up 4% compared to 2023 thanks to promoting high-tech agricultural training.

The medical and healthcare industry accounts for 10% and tends to increase due to population aging and the need for community healthcare.

The Ministry of Education and Training assessed that the majors and occupations with high enrollment results mainly focus on popular majors and occupations with high labor demand in society such as: engineering technology, information technology; tourism , services, restaurants, hotels... In recent years, emerging majors and green training have also received attention and training direction from many vocational training institutions.

Besides the industries and professions that have good recruitment, there are also industries and professions that are difficult to recruit, concentrated in fields and professions that are heavy, toxic, and dangerous such as: mining, mines, tunnels; waste treatment, environment, etc.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that in recent times, although people's and students' awareness of the importance of vocational education has been raised, the mentality of valuing degrees and the idea of preferring university education over vocational training, considering vocational training as the last path in students' choices, is still heavy.

Along with university admissions on a large scale and in large numbers (always accounting for about 50-70% of the number of high school graduates each year), diverse and easy university admission methods also create many difficulties for college and intermediate school admissions, creating pressure for vocational education institutions in admissions.

To ensure stable enrollment activities, the Ministry of Education and Training recommends that institutions strengthen the organization of high-quality training programs; pay attention to and focus on enrolling students in fields and professions that require high-tech human resources, new technology, and supporting industries to meet the requirements of international integration.

In addition, schools need to coordinate with businesses so that enrollment is linked to recruitment and employment after graduation of students.

Nearly 50% of Polytechnic graduates work in companies with foreign elements . According to statistics from Hanoi University of Science and Technology on the employment situation of graduates in 2024, about more than 25% work in foreign companies in Vietnam, 7% work in international companies abroad.
