The Long Thanh International Airport project has mobilized hundreds of construction teams and more than 3,000 construction equipment to speed up progress with the basic goal of completing the project before December 19.
Component project 3 - Essential works in Long Thanh International Airport is being carried out by a consortium of contractors with the determination to work in "3 shifts, 4 shifts" to speed up the progress and complete this key project before December 19.
According to the report of Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), Component Project 3 has completed 3 packages (fence, leveling and drainage, terminal pile construction) and is implementing construction of 12 packages.
Specifically, Package 4.6 (runway, taxiway, apron) has basically completed the runway section. On September 26, 2025, Long Thanh Airport officially welcomed the first calibration flight, marking an important technical milestone in the roadmap to basically complete the project before December 19, 2025 and operate in the first half of 2026.
For Package 4.7 (aircraft parking lot of passenger terminal), the joint venture has mobilized more than 1,780 engineers and workers with 521 pieces of equipment and machinery. ACV has directed the contractor to take full advantage of the weather to carry out the construction. Currently, the construction of the aircraft parking lot of the passenger terminal has completed the ground structure, the cement concrete layer, the construction volume has reached 79.4%; it is expected that on November 30, the construction of the tunnel for ground service equipment will be completed; the construction of the drainage system has reached more than 93%.
Items to be completed before December 19 include: the entire structure of the passenger terminal aircraft parking lot; basement for ground service equipment; drainage system, parking lot and taxiway lighting system, aircraft parking lot lighting system; areas overlapping with underground technical infrastructure systems, striving to be completed before March 2026.
Package 4.8 (internal port traffic and technical infrastructure) has completed about 40.58% of construction, and will complete the main road connecting the passenger terminal and the service road to the functional area serving phase 1 operations before December 19. The overpass will complete the right branch connecting the passenger terminal before December 19; it is expected that by the end of November 2025, the power supply items including the passenger terminal and the air traffic control tower will be completed to ensure technical operations before December 19.
Package 4.9 (fuel supply system) will complete the building and auxiliary works before December 19; the fuel tank is expected to be completed before December 5; a number of other specialized equipment are also ordered by the contractor consortium to be manufactured abroad, with mechanical installation expected to be completed by the end of March 2026.
For package 4.12 (second runway), the groundwork has been basically completed, and the crushed stone aggregate is being constructed (72.6%) and the cement concrete structure is being constructed (60.58%); the groundwork for the taxiway is being constructed at 63%, the sand layer and crushed stone aggregate is 54% and the cement concrete structure is 31.1%. The joint venture contractor will continue to mobilize personnel, machinery and equipment in the coming time to meet the goal of basically completing the cement concrete for the runway, landing runway and taxiway before December 19, ensuring synchronous completion with the passenger terminal project and putting it into operation in June 2026 according to the required schedule.
Package 5.10 (construction of passenger terminal) is currently arranging 4,914 personnel and more than 1,000 construction equipment and machinery. Of which, the roof architectural construction will be basically completed in September 2025 for the wings and before November 30, 2025 for the central area; the steel structure of the telescopic bridge area will be completed in October; the glass wall work in the central area is expected to be completed before November 30, 2025.
The construction package for the traffic system connecting lines 1 and 2, up to now, line 1 has been technically opened to traffic on April 30, 2025; line 2 has completed the roadbed and foundation items, the asphalt concrete paving work has reached 91%. Currently, the contractor is actively implementing the construction of traffic safety items, trees, lighting and is expected to complete the entire package this November.
Target to finish before December 19
Regarding the source of stone materials, according to ACV's report, the project still has 519,408m3 of stone whose source has not been determined. ACV recommends that the People's Committee of Dong Nai province have a plan to supplement the missing stone volume due to legal problems to ensure compliance with the contractor's registration requirements.
Currently, all project packages are being constructed simultaneously by ACV across the entire construction site in the spirit of "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain", "3 shifts, 4 shifts", construction "through holidays, through Tet, through days off."
The contractor consortium has mobilized hundreds of construction teams, nearly 14,000 experts, engineers, workers, laborers, and more than 3,000 construction equipment to speed up progress with the basic goal of completing the project before December 19, 2025, putting it into operation and commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026 in accordance with the direction of the Prime Minister .
This year, the weather conditions were unfavorable, the rainy season came early and lasted continuously (in June, September and October there were more than 20 rainy days), affecting the construction work, especially underground works. ACV has directed the contractor consortiums to proactively adjust the plan and construction methods to speed up the project progress, striving to complete it on schedule.
“Up to now, the progress of implementing items of the Long Thanh Airport Project is closely following the direction of the Government , the Prime Minister and State management agencies, ensuring the basic goal of completing the project before December 19, 2025, putting it into operation and commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026; construction work is deployed in accordance with approved measures, ensuring that all project items are inspected, supervised and accepted in accordance with current technical standards,” said Mr. Nguyen Tien Viet, Deputy General Director of ACV./.
