More than 665,000 people withdrew social insurance at once in the first 6 months of 2023

That is the highlight information in the press release after the online conference to review the work of the first 6 months of the year and deploy tasks for the last 6 months of 2023 organized by Vietnam Social Security on July 13.

The number of people participating in social insurance increased by nearly 4% over the same period.

According to the Vietnam Social Security, by the end of June 2023, the country had 17.48 million people participating in social insurance, equivalent to about 37.5% of the workforce. This number increased by 662,000 people (about 3.9%) compared to the same period in 2022.

Along with that, there are 90.89 million people participating in health insurance, an increase of 4.35 million people compared to the same period in 2022. Thus, more than 91.86% of the population has health insurance.

In the first 6 months of 2023, the social insurance sector resolved for about 37,000 people receiving monthly pensions and social insurance benefits, and over 665,000 people withdrew social insurance at one time, or more than 110,000 people/month.

According to Vietnam Social Security, this agency has coordinated with relevant ministries and branches to advise and propose to the National Assembly and the Government to issue policies to remove difficulties and obstacles in purchasing, bidding, managing and using drugs, medical equipment and supplies. At the same time, it has coordinated to resolve difficulties in paying for medical examination and treatment costs under health insurance.

Specifically, by the end of June 2023, the whole country had 82.98 million people using health insurance for medical examination and treatment, an increase of 18.76 million compared to the same period in 2022.

Police intervene to handle social insurance fraud

In addition, the social insurance sector also inspected and examined more than 9,000 units. The number of units forced to correct and pay late payments directly was over 425 billion VND, an increase of 22% compared to the same period last year.

This agency added that recently, some provinces such as Dong Nai and Binh Duong have reviewed violations in the exploitation of social insurance funds. In the coming time, the two sectors of the police and social insurance will coordinate in handling, adjudicating as well as stipulating strong sanctions to completely handle the above problem.

Concluding the conference, General Director of Vietnam Social Security Nguyen The Manh suggested that the whole industry proactively grasp the reality to propose to competent authorities to resolve and remove difficulties and obstacles.

The motto is to facilitate and ensure the rights of social insurance participants. At the same time, the insurance agencies of provinces and cities continue to strengthen inspections, surprise checks, and handle violations such as profiteering from social insurance funds, insurance debt, etc.

"Units need to be proactive, further strengthen discipline, clearly assign people and tasks, and assign responsibility to leaders," Mr. Manh stated.
