As a country heavily affected by climate change, Vietnam is facing many challenges in agricultural production such as floods, droughts, pests, and soil degradation. These factors directly affect productivity, quality of agricultural products and farmers' income.
Faced with that reality, public-private partnership initiatives between management agencies, businesses and international partners have been providing practical solutions to effectively manage pests, land, water and nutrient resources; at the same time supporting farmers in applying scientific advances, effectively implementing sustainable agricultural development goals and adapting to climate change according to the Government's orientation.
One of the typical examples is the model implemented by the CropLife Vietnam Association with 8 member companies (Bayer, Corteva, BASF, FMC, Nufarm, Sumitomo Chemical, Syngenta, UPL) demonstrating a long-term commitment to accompany the Vietnamese Government in developing responsible agriculture. With the goal of supporting more than 25 million farmers to access and effectively apply scientific and technological solutions, CropLife aims to improve productivity, quality of agricultural products, reduce emissions and promote sustainable growth.
Not only introducing advanced technologies, CropLife Vietnam is also a bridge for multi-stakeholder cooperation between businesses - management agencies - international partners, aiming to spread modern, environmentally friendly agricultural models, contributing to realizing the goals of the National Strategy on Green Growth, towards net emissions of "0" (Net Zero 2050). In 2024, the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) and the CropLife Vietnam Association deployed the "Sustainable Pesticide Management Framework" (SPMF) program for the period 2023-2028. This is a typical public-private initiative, aiming at the management and use of pesticides safely, effectively and environmentally friendly.
The program has recorded many outstanding results such as: For the first time, a training course hosted by a state agency has trained and certified more than 30 test officers on drone operation, with technical support from AgriDrone company; Documents and videos on safe spraying of pesticides by UAV/Drone in Vietnam have been released; The training program in Dong Thap has entered its third year, helping farmers apply safe plant protection measures, increase the value of agricultural products and reduce environmental risks.
Along with that, the program has built an online training platform, helping farmers and agents across the country to learn anytime, anywhere; For the first time, Vietnam organized an international conference on pesticide packaging management, gathering more than 120 domestic and foreign experts, contributing to updating international trends and experiences.
These results confirm the effectiveness of the public-private partnership model in the field of plant protection, while improving management capacity, promoting green growth and encouraging the application of modern technology in agricultural production.

Join hands for the future of Vietnamese agriculture
One of the typical projects of CropLife member company is "Sustainable rice farming towards the future - Bayer ForwardFarming", which will be implemented from September 2023 in the Mekong Delta. The project is implemented by Bayer in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute, IRRI and many enterprises in the rice value chain, aiming to contribute to Vietnam's 1 million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice project.
Actual results show that the model has brought positive impacts on both the environment and the economy: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 24.7% compared to traditional farming; Saving 50% of irrigation water and reducing 30-50% of nitrogen fertilizer, optimizing input costs; Productivity increased by 13.5%, profit increased by 13.1-54.9%, helping farmers significantly improve their income; Products continuously met EU food safety standards for 5 consecutive crops.
To date, the model has expanded to An Giang and Kien Giang and recorded positive results in the 2024-2025 Winter-Spring crop. Notably, more than 4,500 farming households have been trained and visited the model, improving production capacity and awareness of sustainable agriculture.
In Tay Ninh, UPL Vietnam deploys the Pronutiva model - a biological integration program combining biological and chemical solutions, bringing about remarkable efficiency in rice cultivation.
With the coordination of Tay Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Plant Protection Department and local farmers, the model has helped reduce production costs by 1-1.5 million VND/ha, while increasing productivity by 500-700 kg/ha.
Mr. Nguyen Van Do (Vinh Binh commune, Tay Ninh) shared: "Previously, I cultivated in the traditional way, with high costs and unstable productivity. After applying Pronutiva, costs decreased, productivity increased to 5.8 tons/ha, and income reached 19 million VND/ha."
Not only bringing economic benefits, Pronutiva also focuses on training farmers and sharing modern farming knowledge. Training sessions and field seminars have helped farmers gradually shift from the mindset of "agricultural production" to "agricultural business", aiming for sustainable development.
From the cooperation models of SPMF, Bayer ForwardFarming, UPL Pronutiva, it is clear to see the consensus between CropLife Vietnam and member companies in accompanying farmers and promoting green transformation.
Although deployed in different regions, crops and scales, all aim at the common goal of helping farmers access advanced scientific solutions, improve productivity, income and quality of agricultural products. Another important goal is to reduce emissions and protect the environment, making a practical contribution to Vietnam's Net Zero 2050 target.
"Sustainable agriculture is not only the story of farmers, but also the shared responsibility of the whole society - from management agencies, businesses to international organizations. Today's cooperation is the foundation for the green future of Vietnamese agriculture," emphasized a representative of CropLife Vietnam.
