Cancel the results of 12 students involved, let them retake the exam

Regarding the leak of English exam questions in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province has submitted a document to the Provincial People's Committee's Executive Committee to report to the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, asking for opinions on the method of admission to grade 10 (86/TTr-SGDĐT dated June 15).

According to the report, the verification results related to the leaking of the English exam questions, the Kon Tum Provincial Police Department verified that the teacher assigned to create the questions was careless in preserving the draft questions.

The exam committee was not strict in handling the draft exam. The student took a photo of the draft exam and sent it to his classmates in a private group. The police also determined that the private group had 12 students involved in the incident.

Based on the verification of the Public Security agency combined with the analysis of the quality and score distribution of English (general subject) of the entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year compared to the score distribution of the previous year, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province affirmed that the scope of influence of the leak of the draft English exam is very small compared to the scale of the exam.

Therefore, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province proposed to the Provincial People's Committee a plan for the 10th grade admission exam. Specifically, for candidates not related to the leaked draft exam, the admission plan will remain the same. For related candidates (12 students), the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province proposed to cancel the exam results and organize for them to take the second round of the English exam using the reserve exam. The exam is expected to take place in early August.

Regarding admission for these candidates, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province proposed using the first round exam results of Math and Literature; the second round exam results of English along with the candidates' 4-year training and study scores of junior high school for admission.

According to the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province, the above plan will ensure fairness for candidates, not cause disruption and no second exam, no waste of human resources, costs for parents and local budget.

Previously, on the evening of June 2, after the English exam at the 10th grade entrance exam in Kon Tum, on social networks Zalo and Facebook, there was public opinion that the English exam questions were leaked with a copy of the content similar to the above exam questions.

On the morning of June 4, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province worked with the teachers who created the English exam questions, including Mr. Tran Trung Trinh (Lien Viet Middle and High School) and Ms. Pham Thi Huong (Nguyen Hue Middle School, Kon Tum city). Only Ms. Le Thi Hong Loan (Truong Chinh High School), a seconded official working at the Department of Education and Training, was absent because she is working in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to the content of document 1057/SGDĐT-VP dated June 4 of the Department of Education and Training sent to Kon Tum Provincial Police, at the meeting, Ms. Pham Thi Huong admitted that a 9A student of Nguyen Hue Secondary School who was taking extra classes at Ms. Huong's home took a photo of the exam from the printer at Ms. Huong's home. At the same time, Ms. Huong admitted her mistake in letting students take a photo of the draft exam and affirmed that she did not copy or take photos of the exam for students.

To specifically determine the information about the leaked English exam questions of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year, the Department of Education and Training of Kon Tum province requested the Provincial Police to support the investigation and verification to clarify the cause, related individuals, and the scope of influence of the leaked exam questions to report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and adjustment of the 10th grade admission plan accordingly.

Regarding the above issue, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Kon Tum province have issued an urgent document, directing functional forces to request investigation and strict handling if there is any violation of leaking 10th grade entrance exam questions.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2023-2024 school year was held from June 1-4. In Kon Tum province, 6,659 candidates registered to take the exam at 25 exam sites, with a target of 5,594 students.
