According to information from local authorities, the fire broke out at noon on April 2 in a grassland area on the banks of the Nho Que River.
Immediately after the fire broke out, the commune mobilized functional forces to put out the fire.
However, due to the complex terrain conditions, mainly steep hills, fire fighting was difficult. The fire continued to spread to the mixed forest hill area.
Mr. Pham Duc Nam, Vice Chairman of Dong Van District People's Committee, was present at the scene to direct and deploy fire fighting work.
Mr. Pham Duc Nam said that because the fire occurred in an area with rugged terrain and steep slopes, forest fire fighting was difficult. In addition, there was no water in the area to fight the fire.
"We have mobilized forces to create a firebreak. By late afternoon on April 3, the forest fire in Ma Le commune was basically under control. It is estimated that the fire damaged about 5 hectares of mixed forest and grassland," Mr. Nam informed.

Authorities cut down many large trees to create a firebreak, preventing the fire from spreading to the pine forest. |
Currently, Dong Van Stone Plateau has dry weather conditions, no rain for many months, this is also the time when people are burning vegetation to plant main-season corn, so the risk of forest fires is very high.
Therefore, local authorities need to increase propaganda and mobilize people to be careful in burning vegetation and raise awareness in forest fire prevention and control.
