Son La: 5 types of trees recognized as heritage trees at Yen Chau Mango Festival

NDO - On May 30, the People's Committee of Yen Chau district, Son La province organized the Mango Festival 2025 and the Ceremony to announce the Decision to recognize Vietnamese heritage trees in 2025.

Yen Chau district has more than 3,300 hectares of mango, the district with the largest and most delicious mango area in Son La province. In 2025, the district's mango output is estimated to reach more than 26,000 tons, with varieties of round mango, native stinky mango, Australian mango, and Taiwanese mango.

Yen Chau is not only the largest mango growing area in Son La, but also the origin of the mango brand since the early 20th century.

Yen Chau mango has a unique flavor, beautiful shape, thin skin, sweet taste, highly appreciated by domestic and foreign markets.

Attending the Yen Chau Mango Festival were comrade Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Son La province and delegates.

Mango Festival is an annual activity organized by Yen Chau District People's Committee since 2017. This year, Yen Chau continues to choose Kha village, Sap Vat commune as the location for the main activities of the festival.

Ban Kha is a place with a lot of potential and advantages to develop community tourism , with dozens of hectares of ancient round mango trees hundreds of years old and located in a geographical indication area.

Many cultural and artistic activities will be held during the Yen Chau Mango Festival and will last until May 31.

Kha village is also a village that still retains traditional stilt houses and preserves unique cultural features of the Thai ethnic group, such as the Dong Sua festival, folk singing, performing traditional musical instruments and maintaining traditional crafts...

Taking place over 3 days from May 30 to June 1, this year’s Yen Chau Mango Festival includes a series of rich and attractive activities. Highlights include mango picking contests, xoè dance contests, traditional costume performances, dexterity contests, folk games, and mango garden tours.

At this year's Mango Festival, the Dong Sua Festival will be reenacted; booths will be displayed to introduce agricultural products and handicrafts typical of communes and towns...

Awarding Certificates of recognition of Vietnamese heritage trees to villages in communes of Yen Chau district.

Mr. Lu Van Cuong, Chairman of Yen Chau District People's Committee, emphasized: Yen Chau Mango Festival is an opportunity to promote the "Yen Chau mango" brand and honor mango growers; contributing to introducing the land and people of Yen Chau to many friends and tourists inside and outside the province.

This is also an opportunity to promote products, connect trade, promote investment, promote production-consumption links; creating a premise to promote tourism in Yen Chau district to develop commensurate with the potential and advantages of the district.

The highlight of this year's program is the announcement ceremony and awarding of certificates of recognition for 5 Vietnamese heritage trees of Yen Chau district, including: Tamarind tree, mango tree in Kha village, Sap Vat commune, banyan tree, tea tree in Luong village, On Oc village, Muong Lum commune, and dracontomelon tree in Na Nga village, Chieng Hac commune.

In the coming time, Yen Chau district will continue to promote the strength of mango growing areas, expand the area, boost production according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; improve the quality of processing, packaging, branding and boost exports - aiming to build "Yen Chau Mango - a national agricultural product brand".
