Tam Duong District: Passion fruit planting season

Ms. Xu Thi Huong's family in Dong Pao I village (Ban Hon commune) started growing passion fruit in 2022 with an area of ​​5,000m2. With instructions on how to plant and care for the plant from technical staff of Lai Chau Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company, the entire area grew and developed well, bearing fruit, yielding an average of 12-13 tons of fruit each year, earning a profit of 50 million VND. At the end of the 2-year cycle, in early May 2025, Ms. Huong's family demolished the old trellis to plant 4,000m2 of new passion fruit.
Ms. Huong said: “Because of the economic efficiency of passion fruit trees, in 2025, my family registered to plant 4,000 square meters of new trees. With the company's support of seedlings, lime powder, fertilizers, pesticides and techniques, in just 1 day, my family planted 320 passion fruit trees. Now we just focus on taking care of the passion fruit trees so that they grow well and bear fruit soon.”
Having grown passion fruit for 5 years now, from 2,000m2, Ms. Vang Thi Sua's family in Nam Phat village (Ban Bo commune) earns more than 20 million VND per year. In our conversation with her, we learned that previously, due to lack of water for production, her family only grew rice once a year (summer crop) and left the rest fallow, which was a waste. After being encouraged and encouraged by Ban Bo commune officials and Lai Chau Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company to change the crop structure, her family boldly followed suit and achieved clear results. Therefore, this year, the family decided to expand the area to 4,000m2 on the single-crop rice field.

Ms. Sua shared: “Taking advantage of the rainy weather and moist soil, my family mobilized manpower to plant passion fruit. With meticulous technical guidance and production experience, the planting process was carried out quickly, and my family completed it in just 1.5 days.”
Currently, some localities in Tam Duong district have large areas of passion fruit such as: Khun Ha, Ban Hon, Ho Thau, Son Binh... Comrade Nguyen Van Hung - Deputy Director of Lai Chau Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company said: "Implementing Decision No. 3557/QD-UBND dated November 1, 2022 of Tam Duong District People's Committee on approving the Plan to support linkage in production, planting and consumption of passion fruit in the district for the period 2022-2026, in 2025, Lai Chau Passion Fruit Joint Stock Company will deploy linkage in production, planting 44.25 hectares of new passion fruit trees in communes and towns in the district with 96 participating households. The company has supported seedlings, fertilizers, lime powder, and pesticides according to the norms prescribed in Decision No. 31/2021/QD-UBND dated September 8, 2021 of the Provincial People's Committee. During the implementation process, the company also "The company works with the people from the stage of selecting land, providing technical guidance on soil preparation, digging holes, fertilizing, planting, caring for and preventing pests and diseases for the plants. Coordinate with households to start planting new trees from the beginning of May; the company also commits to consuming all qualified passion fruit products for the households."
Linking the production and consumption of passion fruit between people and businesses has formed a passion fruit material area in Tam Duong district. Sustainable production not only increases income, but also creates motivation and confidence for people to expand the area, promote the development of rural agricultural economy, and sustainably reduce poverty.
