Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Quy, Chairman of the Da Nang City Elderly Association, said that the mass sports movement has developed strongly in recent years, especially in badminton and table tennis.
“Currently, the exercise movement has spread widely throughout wards and communes, contributing to improving the spiritual life of middle-aged and elderly people. This is a useful playground to help members exercise, live happily, live healthily and connect with the community,” he emphasized.

This year’s tournament gathered 51 clubs with nearly 650 athletes. Of which, 23 badminton clubs participated, and 28 table tennis clubs, showing the great attraction of the sports movement for the elderly in Da Nang.
“The tournament aims to encourage the sports movement, creating conditions for athletes to exchange and learn experiences. At the same time, the Organizing Committee will select outstanding faces to add to the Da Nang City senior team to participate in upcoming national tournaments,” Mr. Pham Quy added.

In table tennis, athletes compete in 6 age groups, from 36 to 61 years old and over, with 3 events: men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. The matches are organized in a round-robin format, selecting the first and second teams to advance to the semi-finals and finals.
Badminton is also played in 6 age groups, including the leadership group (men's doubles) and the club group with 3 events: men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles. In events with 13 or more players, the tournament applies a one-time knockout format; in events with 12 or fewer players, the competition is a round robin.

The 2025 Badminton and Table Tennis Tournament for Seniors of Da Nang City Clubs will take place until November 23, creating a highlight for the city's senior sports movement, and at the same time being a practical activity to celebrate Da Nang's cultural and sports events in 2025.
