(CPV) - The 2024 Teqball World Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City attracted more than 220 athletes (including 86 women and 135 men) from 95 countries and territories around the world to compete in 5 events: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles.

On the evening of December 4, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee coordinated with the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) to organize the opening ceremony of the 2024 Teqball World Championship.
The tournament attracted more than 220 athletes (including 86 women and 135 men) from 95 countries and territories around the world to compete in 5 events: Men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. The tournament had a total of more than 300 matches between athletes, in which the players from Brazil, Argentina, Hungary, Romania, and Spain were highly rated and likely to compete for the Championship title in the events.
The 2024 Teqball World Championship will take place until December 8 at Nguyen Hue Walking Street. The final matches on December 7 and 8 will take place at the main stadium on Le Loi Street (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said that Ho Chi Minh City is honored to be chosen to host a global sports tournament. This is an important step in developing sports and enhancing cultural values, and at the same time, the tournament will contribute to helping the Vietnamese people in general and Ho Chi Minh City people in particular understand more about the powerful, beautiful and attractive sport of Teqball.

"The 2024 Teqball World Championship is not simply a sports competition, it is an opportunity for countries and peoples to exchange, connect and share the good values of sports - a field that always carries within it the spirit of solidarity, respect, fairness and civilization," said Ms. Dieu Thuy.
Within the framework of the 2024 Teqball World Championship, there will be light projection (Mapping) activities at the headquarters of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, introducing Vietnam's cultural heritages with the theme "Hello Vietnam!"; displaying, exhibiting, and experiencing the history, culture, and people of Vietnam at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum with the theme: "Heritage Convergence" and the Ho Chi Minh City Investment Promotion Conference.

Mr. Gábor Lehőcz, Consul General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City shared: "The 2024 Teqball World Championship is a key event in sports diplomacy and in the extremely successful 75-year bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Hungary. The Consul General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City believes that the championship will further enhance the global reputation of Ho Chi Minh City through the participation of international athletes and enthusiastic fans.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President of the International Teqball Federation Gabor Borsanyi highly appreciated the efforts of Ho Chi Minh City in supporting the federation to host this world-class tournament. According to him, the 2024 Teqball World Championship in Ho Chi Minh City marks a record milestone in the number of athletes and delegations participating, demonstrating the development of this attractive sport.

"As a dynamic, creative and hospitable city, I believe Ho Chi Minh City will successfully organize the tournament, inspiring the next generations," said Mr. Gabor Borsanyi.

Many accompanying activities were also organized in parallel with the main competition event such as: Mapping art projection with the theme "Hello Vietnam!" in the area in front of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; cultural space named "Oriental House" in Southern style was restored at the tournament venue, creating opportunities for athletes and tourists to exchange and learn about Vietnamese culture and cuisine.
