Chau Doc is located on the banks of the Hau River, near the majestic That Son mountain range, bordering Cambodia, between three important border gates: Tinh Bien International Border Gate, Vinh Xuong International Border Gate, Khanh Binh National Border Gate. This helps Chau Doc become a border trade center, promoting trade and border services.

This is also a locality with outstanding transport infrastructure. The Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project worth tens of thousands of billions of VND is being implemented, connecting the West with Tran De port and neighboring provinces. Chau Doc bridge has an investment of more than 2,100 billion VND, connecting Chau Doc with Tan Chau urban area, connecting route N1 - an important horizontal axis of the Southwest. The Chau Doc - Long Xuyen economic corridor is gradually being completed, enhancing inter-regional connectivity.
Therefore, the An Giang Provincial Party Committee (before the merger) has dedicated 2 important and worthy resolutions to the locality. Initially, 19 years ago, Resolution No. 04-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on building and developing Chau Doc town until 2010 was issued. Later, Resolution No. 02-NQ/TU, dated November 21, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee continued to inherit, determined to build and develop Chau Doc city until 2025, with a vision to 2030.
“This is an important political basis for the Chau Doc Ward Party Committee to propose drastic and effective implementation solutions, ensuring feasibility, synchronization, and suitability for implementation, creating strong changes in socio-economic development. The locality coordinates to implement the project of developing the night-time economy, building Vinh Nguon sub-border gate in accordance with its potential; developing the private economy, foreign economy, strengthening regional connectivity within the province and the southwestern border corridor axis, turning Chau Doc into an urban center of trade, finance, banking, education, healthcare, and comprehensive services in the border area”, affirmed Chau Doc Ward Party Committee Secretary Lam Quang Thi.
However, there are still many "bottlenecks" in the journey to "become a driving force" of the ward, revolving around budget collection not being commensurate with potential; investment in building technical infrastructure and social infrastructure is not outstanding; border trade economy is still at a half-way level, not really a breakthrough.
Referring to the human resources aspect, Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Ngan - Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Chau Doc ward said: “The working-age population is 46,266 people, accounting for 47% of the population, mainly distributed in the service, tourism, trade and partly in agriculture and fisheries. The most obvious limitation is that the human resources with foreign language, IT and soft skills are still limited, not meeting the requirements of integration and serving international tourists; there are not many specialized training sectors associated with the specific needs of the border (logistics, foreign trade, international tourism). Improving the quality of human resources is not only a key task but also a prerequisite for Chau Doc to maximize the advantages of a border gateway, becoming an economic, cultural and tourism center of the Southwest region”.
According to Ms. Huynh Thi Kim Ngan, to improve human resources, many synchronous solutions are needed such as: Strategic human resource planning and development, building a master plan "Human resource development in Chau Doc ward for the period 2025 - 2035" associated with the goal of becoming a center of the Southwest border region; improving the quality of training and retraining; mobilizing Chau Doc people to study and work in large cities or abroad, returning to contribute with scholarships, projects, and start-up investments; training cooperation with provinces bordering Cambodia and major universities...
“It can be affirmed that Chau Doc ward has the potential to become a commercial, service and tourism center of the province and the Southwest region, contributing to promoting regional connectivity and international economic integration. The Rach Gia - Long Xuyen - Chau Doc - Ha Tien quadrangle is the driving force for industrial development, logistics and cultural and ecological tourism; developing border trade economy, a hub for trade and cooperation with the Kingdom of Cambodia”, said comrade Nguyen Tien Hai - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.
To exploit these great opportunities and potentials, the Provincial Party Secretary requested the ward leaders to correctly and fully assess the context, situation, opportunities and challenges to correctly determine the development space in the future, especially the economic, service, tourism and border economic potentials. The ward Party Committee continues to review, adjust and effectively implement socio-economic development plans according to the orientation of the Government and the province; review and remove difficulties and obstacles to speed up project implementation progress, clear investment capital flows, and create a green, modern and sustainable development space.
