10 more temporary houses every day

After the historic flood, hundreds of houses in the highland communes west of Da Nang City were swept away or collapsed. Sharing the difficulties and losses of the people, the army coordinated with local authorities and volunteer organizations to join hands, contribute, and arrange dozens of concentrated evacuation points to avoid floods, with full provisions of food, provisions, and daily necessities.

Tra Leng commune militia helps people in village 1 build temporary houses after the flood.

For nearly a week now, in addition to overcoming landslides and crossing mountains and forests to supply food to isolated areas, soldiers have also taken advantage of their time to go to villages to survey and find locations to build thatched houses and temporary houses for people. Some have cut bamboo and built pillars; some have roofed and nailed; some have attached fences and built screens, from villages 2, 3, 4 (Tra Leng commune) to villages Ngoc Giac, Tra Giac, Ngoc Tu, Song Y (Tra Tan commune)... soldiers, militia and other forces have all worked very urgently. Heavy rain, strong winds and steep, winding, slippery, muddy passes, making it inaccessible for motor vehicles, so soldiers had to transport materials and do the construction entirely by hand. Working day and night, the forces have so far completed 46 thatched houses, bamboo and reeds, helping people have a stable life at first.

After more than a week of evacuation because her old house was swept away by floodwaters, on the afternoon of November 3, returning to the temporary house built by the army, Ms. Ho Thi Von, residing in village 3, Tra Tan commune, emotionally shared: "In these rainy and flood conditions, it is very good that my husband and I have the soldiers build a temporary house for us to live in. The soldiers also gave us pots, pans, fish sauce, salt, dried fish... The support of the soldiers helped my family initially overcome difficulties."

Temporary houses made from bamboo and thatch by officers and soldiers of the Tra Tan Commune Military Command were built for households in the landslide area.

Lieutenant Colonel Luu Phuoc Thuy, Deputy Chief of Politics of the PTKV 3-Tra My Command, said: “After carefully surveying the area, we had to go to the evacuation area to pick up the people to discuss and agree on the location and method, then build the houses. With houses made of bamboo and thatch, on average, a group of 15 people will take a day to complete. As for wooden houses that reuse old frames and materials brought up from the rubble, it will take longer. The unit strives to build about 10 temporary houses each day so that people can soon stabilize their lives."

The effectiveness of "air bridge" to transport supplies

To speed up the transportation and supply of food to villages and hamlets isolated by floodwaters and landslides, in the past two days, with the support and assistance of volunteer groups from Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ngai province, the PTKV 3-Tra My Command has organized hundreds of drone flights to safely transport goods across rivers and mountains.

At noon on January 3, at the intersection of Ba Phu rock field (Tra Giac village, Tra Tan commune), under the control of Mr. Tran Van Duy and Tran Van Dinh (in Dak To commune, Quang Ngai province) and their colleagues, 3 large-capacity unmanned aerial vehicles continuously carried bags weighing from 40kg to 60kg across a landslide area nearly 800m long (causing local congestion on National Highway 40B connecting Tra My commune with the highland communes west of Da Nang city) to the gathering place.

Officers and soldiers of the Defense Command of Region 3 - Tra My use drones to supply food to people in isolated villages and hamlets.

On the other side, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Ho Thang Tra, Deputy Commander of PTKV 3-Tra My Command, 40 soldiers and dozens of local youths urgently unloaded goods and transported them to each village and hamlet. While waiting for the transit force at the quarry intersection to return to continue receiving the goods, the "ground pilot" team urgently used pickup trucks to transport the drones to 6 other assembly points along National Highway 40B to carry out flights over the flood to deliver goods across the Tranh River.

In just about 2 hours, nearly 4 tons of rice, instant noodles, dry food and other necessities were received by the forces on the other side of the river, loaded onto motorbikes and transported to relief points. The planes continuously operated, bringing the love and sympathy of the forces to the isolated people.

Directly commanding the forces at the scene, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Ngoc Toan, Commander of the PTKV 3-Tra My Command, said: “In the complicated weather conditions, if soldiers were to carry goods through the landslide area or row boats across the Tranh River like the previous days, it would be very dangerous and time-consuming. With the effective support of unmanned aerial vehicles, the unit transported and supplied nearly 10 tons of goods, including food and necessities to people in isolated highland villages and hamlets.”

Standing side by side with the troops in the highlands, plains, and coastal areas, officers and soldiers of units under Military Region 5 (Da Nang City Military Command, Division 315, Engineering Brigade 270, Information Brigade 575, Military School of Military Region 5) and units under Naval Region 3, Command 86, Special Forces are also working hard to help people reinforce and protect the An Luong dike (Duy Nghia commune); collect mud and soil, clean up schools, streets, and constructions in Hoi An, Dien Ban Tay, Dai Loc, Hoa Vang...
