“I love my country” is not just a temporary trend but deeply demonstrates the strength of solidarity and eternal national pride of the Vietnamese people. Thanks to that, every September 2nd, the national flag hanging in the heart is raised high to express a love that has been passed down through generations, deeply rooted in the blood of every Vietnamese person.
In August 2024, a trend appeared on social networks to turn each roof into a national flag. The trend started from the inspiring story of a young man named Le Quang Vu (29 years old) in Tam Duong district, Vinh Phuc province. After finishing building a house for his parents, Vu saw the red corrugated iron roof and immediately came up with the idea of drawing a 5-pointed yellow star on the roof to create the shape of a national flag with an area of 150 square meters.
After completing the flag, Vu recorded a video and posted it on social media, attracting 2.8 million views, more than 100,000 likes and many comments in a short time. Vu expressed: "My only wish is to spread love for my homeland to the community and prove that the patriotism of every Vietnamese person is immortal." After one night, many people responded to "hanging" the flag on the roof to show patriotism, national pride and celebrate National Day September 2.
Although it is recognized that when responding, it is necessary to carefully study the color, size, and position of the flag, to create a movement with depth, solemnity, and expressing many values. However, it cannot be denied that this trend has proven the strength of the Vietnamese nation, the patriotism of the Vietnamese people is like a latent fire that only needs a gentle breath, "a touch" to flare up strongly.
Every Vietnamese person seems to have a national flag hanging in their heart, so starting from an inspirational story, it has spread and touched the hearts of millions of Vietnamese people.
Following that, the movement of “covering red” with the red flag with yellow star spread widely on social networks. A series of Facebook and TikTok users posted content expressing national spirit and love for the Fatherland through special effects spreading the image of the Vietnamese national flag.
On the occasion of National Day September 2 this year, young people "checked in" with the image of the Vietnamese flag in every meaningful frame from coffee shops, milk tea cups, food, flower stalls, costumes... to express gratitude to those who sacrificed to protect the Fatherland, affirming that love for the homeland is always present. It is not only national pride, but also the appreciation of the glorious historical value of the nation, the connection across generations with a great common love, which is love for the country.
Looking back in time, on July 26, the image of a "sea of people" sending General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to his final resting place not only expressed condolences for an exceptionally outstanding leader, but also demonstrated a love for the country and a strong national unity within every Vietnamese citizen.
It is said that the state funeral to see off General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is not only an admiration and mourning for a talented leader but also a flower car filled with love for the Fatherland, a strong declaration: "I love Vietnam and am proud to be Vietnamese".
In early August, in the game show “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai”, two generations of artists, People's Artist Tu Long, Soobin Hoang Son and Cuong Seven, performed the song “Trong com” associated with the childhood of many Vietnamese people with traditional musical instruments, causing a fever. This performance quickly entered the trending music list on YouTube, attracting 4.3 million views after two weeks. Inspired by that, many young people on TikTok showed off their talent in covering the melody of Trong com with traditional musical instruments such as the monochord, zither, moon lute, pipa, erhu, fiddle, bamboo flute, etc.
A familiar folk song on traditional musical instruments that is loved and responded to by young people is a meaningful phenomenon. Broadly speaking, love for folk songs and traditional musical instruments is a very clear and subtle way of expressing national love.
In May 2024, a trend of drawing pictures to honor the heroes who saved people in the serious fire in Cau Giay, Hanoi. Two "heroes" with bare shoulders, standing on a wooden ladder, one hand holding onto the iron bar of the window, the other hand continuously using a sledgehammer to hit the wall to rescue the trapped people was an image that inspired artists to use their drawings to depict this beautiful and heroic image. All were filled with a common pride that "our country meets heroes everywhere".
And returning to the important milestone on September 2, 1945, at the historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, affirming freedom for a resilient and united nation through ups and downs, pain and suffering to create a great force to regain independence for the goal of peace and happiness.
And since then, National Day has gone beyond the borders of a historical event, to not only be a day of celebration, but also to arouse in every Vietnamese person pride, solidarity and undying patriotism.
Vietnamese people do not always say “I love my country”, nor do they only hang flags on National Day or holidays. But there will always be a red flag with a yellow star hanging in the hearts of every Vietnamese person so that they can say “I love Vietnam” and proudly call each other compatriots, brothers and sisters.
