Immerse yourself in cultural heritage
At the Cultural and Art Center at 22 Hang Buom ( Hanoi ), watching the opera "Sweet Starfruit Branch" performed by the Vietnam Opera House, many visitors said they had profound moments in traditional art.
Or the live art program "Vietnam - Legendary historical poem: Thang Long - Four towns" held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Center also created positive effects.
In an effort to bring heritage closer to the public, the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic site has also constantly innovated, applying modern technology to create unique experiential products, attracting tourists and developing the cultural industry of the capital. By developing products serving the cultural industry, the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam has reshaped the approach to heritage, turning each visit into an impressive experiential journey, attracting a large number of young people.
According to cultural experts, the fact that young people proactively seek out cultural heritage spaces shows that the need to rediscover traditional cultural identity is being strongly aroused in the community. Heritage is no longer a static concept, confined to single preservation, but is gradually "reviving" thanks to a new approach: organizing art in traditional cultural spaces, both enhancing the experience and evoking the connection between the past and the present.
The spread and attraction of art programs at heritage sites are vivid evidence of a journey of inheriting and promoting national cultural values through the language of contemporary art. This is not only a way to preserve traditional cultural identity, but also to enrich the spiritual life of today's generation.
Cultural researcher – Dr. Nguyen Anh Hong believes that traditional music gives people a depth, a sacred memory, bringing people back to their roots. Meanwhile, modern music brings the breath of life. This combination brings extremely poetic and attractive feelings.
Heritage lives on in our products
In addition to art programs choosing heritage spaces as performance stages, many young artists have also proactively incorporated traditional cultural materials into their music products as a way to tell national stories in contemporary language. Typically, Hoang Thuy Linh, Den Vau, Ha Myo, Phuong My Chi have made their mark with works bearing contemporary folk melodies.
Most recently, the name Hoa Minzy has been all over social media platforms with the MV “Bac Bling” - a unique combination of modern music and folk materials, skillfully blending rap, xam, cheo and quan ho, the artistic quintessence of the Kinh Bac region. Not only impressive in terms of art, Bac Bling also achieved remarkable results when it quickly climbed to the Top 1 Trending position on YouTube Vietnam and became the most impressive debut MV globally after only 24 hours of release.
This success is not only a testament to Hoa Minzy's appeal, but also shows that audiences, especially young people, are increasingly interested in and appreciate traditional cultural values when the work is presented in a creative and approachable way.
Associate Professor Dr. Pham Ngoc Trung - former Head of the Department of Culture and Development (Academy of Journalism and Communication) - emphasized that organizing art programs in the cultural and historical space of heritage is a correct direction, contributing to reviving and spreading traditional values in a modern way.
According to him, in the past, many cultural heritages were preserved in a "framed" way, meaning they were kept intact in a sacred space, limiting crowds... However, this method of preservation made the heritage distant, difficult to access and difficult to fully promote its inherent value.
“In the past 5 years, the combination of contemporary art forms with the architectural and historical space of heritage is opening up a new approach, both respecting traditional values and creating new vitality for heritage,” said Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Trung.
Performing arts programs at relics not only help audiences enjoy art in a space and setting rich in symbols, but also create a special resonance between traditional and modern elements. “The two art forms of the past and present blend harmoniously and subtly. Audiences, especially young people, can more easily access traditional culture through this new and attractive form,” Mr. Trung emphasized.
Notably, the effects of the programs do not stop at the live stage but also spread strongly through social networks - where young people share, interact and inspire. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Ngoc Trung, the fact that young artists incorporate heritage elements and traditional cultural materials into current music products is a positive signal, showing the spirit of respect and desire to spread national cultural values to a wider audience, especially the youth.
However, according to Dr. Nguyen Thi Anh Hong, art, like science , always needs moderation. Beyond moderation, aesthetics will be lost, and attraction will also be lost. The important thing is to ensure selective and creative inheritance. If this principle is followed correctly, traditional cultural values will not only not be lost but can also spread and develop more deeply and sustainably.
Sharing the same view, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Ngoc Trung said that in the context of increasingly diverse and innovative performances, it is important to maintain harmony between the new and the old, between creativity and cultural limitations. When understanding is the foundation for creativity, heritage will not be "staged" arbitrarily, but will be breathed into life through contemporary art forms in a profound, humane and vibrant way.
The Rise of Traditional Culture in Popular Music Life
Dr. Nguyen Anh Hong believes that we are building a culture that is both advanced and imbued with national identity. Artists bring traditional cultural life into the breath of modernity to create attractive artistic products.
This trend will continue to grow stronger. In festivals, celebrations, folk song and dance performances today, the combination of folk culture and modern culture is clearly demonstrated. That is, there is a very subtle exchange and development between traditional art music and modern music.
