Construction of Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh Expressway begins

(DN) - On the morning of August 19, in Nha Bich commune, Dong Nai province, the groundbreaking ceremony of Component 1 of the project, investment in the North-South expressway, western section, Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh, took place. This is one of 8 key projects selected by Dong Nai province to start construction and inaugurate on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were comrades: Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Nai province Ton Ngoc Hanh; Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Nai province Nguyen Thi Hoang; members of the Standing Committee, the Provincial Party Executive Committee; former member of the Party Central Committee, former Secretary of the Binh Phuoc Provincial Party Committee (old) Nguyen Tan Hung; former leaders of Binh Phuoc province through the periods; representatives of leaders of departments, branches, and localities where the expressway passes through.

Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh Expressway is considered a dream road, a road of love, eagerly awaited by local authorities and many people. Because this is a strategic road in terms of economy , society, national defense, security and all aspects of social life.

Component 1 project, investment in the construction of the North-South Expressway, West section, Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh, is invested under the public-private partnership (PPP) method. The joint venture Vingroup - Techtra Infrastructure Investment and Development Joint Stock Company was selected as the investor to implement the project, with a total investment of nearly 20 trillion VND. Of which, the investor's capital participating in the project is over 12 trillion VND, excluding interest; the state capital is over 6.8 trillion VND. The project preparation and implementation period is from 2025 to 2027; the maximum payback period is 29 years and 8 months.

The Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh Expressway has a total length of about 124.13km (the section through Lam Dong province is about 23.1km long, the section through Dong Nai province is about 101.03km long). According to Resolution No. 138/2024/QH15 dated June 28, 2024 of the National Assembly on the investment policy of the North - South Expressway Construction Investment Project, the western section of Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh, the route has a scale of 6 lanes in the completed phase, with a roadbed width of 32.25m, and a design speed of 120km/h. In the investment phase, the project is invested with a scale of 4 complete expressway lanes, a road surface width of 24.75m. The total investment is over 25.8 trillion VND.

To speed up the progress, the project is divided into 5 component projects. Of which, component project 1, the construction of the main route of the expressway, is implemented under the PPP form. In addition, the two provinces of Dong Nai and Lam Dong each carry out 2 component projects on site clearance and construction of service roads and overpasses across the area.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairwoman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang affirmed: Component project 1, investment in the construction of the North-South Expressway in the West, Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh section, is of special importance, not only for Dong Nai province, Lam Dong province but also for the entire Central Highlands and Southeast region. This expressway will play the role of a strategic connecting axis, ensuring security and defense in the Central Highlands region, as well as closely linking with Ho Chi Minh City - the most dynamic economic center in the country.

Given the importance of the project, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang suggested: Investors and enterprises focus on directing and urging contractors to increase machinery, equipment, and construction personnel with the spirit of overcoming the sun and rain, working "3 shifts, 4 shifts", through holidays and days off, contributing to speeding up construction progress, bringing the project to the finish line, exceeding the set schedule; ensuring quality, safety and preventing corruption, waste, and negativity; organizing construction safely - with quality - on schedule.

For relevant departments, branches, sectors and localities, it is necessary to continue to closely coordinate and urgently implement in accordance with regulations, ensuring quality, progress and safety; not allowing corruption, negativity, group interests and waste at all stages.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Hoang hopes that: People and organizations where the project passes through will continue to accompany, support, and create conditions for construction units to complete their tasks well, contributing to the overall success of the project.

Dong Nai province is committed to continue to closely coordinate with Lam Dong province, investors and related units to closely monitor and promote project progress, ensure quality and comply with regulations. Thereby, meeting the expectations of the National Assembly, the Government, the Prime Minister and the expectations of the people of the province, contributing to removing bottlenecks in regional connectivity, completing infrastructure according to the planning and successfully implementing socio-economic development goals according to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress.

Once completed, this expressway will connect with the Ho Chi Minh City - Thu Dau Mot - Chon Thanh expressway, connecting to Ring Road 3 and Ring Road 4 - Ho Chi Minh City, creating development momentum for the Central Highlands and Southeast regions, expanding urban and industrial space. This project also contributes to realizing the goal of 5,000km of expressway set by the Party and Government in the 2021-2030 period.
