Architect Nguyen Truong Luu, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, said: "This award is part of the Action Program No. 45-CTrHD/TU in 2008 of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, implementing Resolution 23-NQ/TW in 2008 of the Politburo (10th tenure) on continuing to build and develop literature and arts in the new period. The authors have created many literary and artistic works of high ideological and artistic value, both providing orientation and meeting the increasingly high cultural and spiritual needs of the people."

Works considered for the HCM City Literature and Arts Award are those with high ideological and artistic value, reflecting the nation's history, the tradition of revolutionary struggle and the current renovation process. The award helps stimulate the continuous creativity in the fields of literature, theater, music , dance, architecture, sculpture, fine arts, etc., especially in the fields of theory and criticism. "Without the field of theory and criticism, it will be difficult to find standard values ​​to guide the creation of literature and arts" - People's Artist Tran Minh Ngoc emphasized.

According to experts, the Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Awards will help people have the opportunity to access works of high aesthetic value. Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Yen Chi, Ho Chi Minh City University of Theatre and Cinema, said: "The Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Awards is like a playground to help young artists have more positive energy to create; thereby, providing the city and the whole country with good and valuable works, such as many stage plays that have won the hearts of the public in recent times: "Revolution", "Flight Path", "Warrior", "Dragon and Phoenix", "Le Chi Garden Secret", "A Thousand Years of Love History", "Da Co Hoai Lang", "Empress Duong Van Nga"...".

Focus on theory and criticism

Ho Chi Minh City currently has about 97,000 people working in the field of culture and arts with about 17,670 enterprises (accounting for 7.74% of the total number of enterprises in the city). Cultural enterprises grow on average about 14%/year, contributing about 5.7% of the city's annual GRDP.

Thus, culture and art in Ho Chi Minh City not only contribute to spiritual life but also influence the economy of the city in particular and the country in general.

According to architect Nguyen Truong Luu, Ho Chi Minh City is making efforts to build a cultural industry. 2024 is considered a pivotal year so that by 2025, cultural and artistic activities will explode to celebrate many major anniversaries of the country, including the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification.

To have good and unique works, Ho Chi Minh City has promoted and organized many campaigns to create, stage and promote literary and artistic works, such as: Voting for typical works of Ho Chi Minh City's literature and arts in the period 1975 - 2023; The 3rd Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Award (2018 - 2022)... Many campaigns to create literary and artistic works according to specific topics in each field have also been organized.

According to director Thanh Hap, a former member of the Southern Art Troupe, Resolution 23 of 2008 of the Politburo pointed out the weakness of the field of theory and criticism. This is one of the reasons leading to the current limitations of the field of literature and arts.
