Musician Anh Quan: "My Anh is a different and completely independent artist"

On the evening of May 18, the music night Phases of the moon by singer My Anh took place in Hanoi . Although he did not appear on stage or participate in any performance, musician Anh Quan - the singer's father - still attracted attention when he was quietly present in the audience.

"I only came as an audience and a father," said musician Anh Quan.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, the veteran musician could not hide his pride when talking about his daughter: "I did not direct My Anh in music , she did whatever she wanted. And today, I am really proud because she walks on her own two feet."

Musician Anh Quan also said that My Anh was not influenced by her parents' music at all, which is very difficult when growing up in a family of artists.

"When I listened to My Anh's new album, I was very emotional. In the eyes of parents, their children are always babies, but when I saw her process her emotions through music so maturely, I knew she had really grown up," he expressed.

When asked about his daughter's musical style, musician Anh Quan did not hesitate to answer: "Different". For the male musician, that is what makes My Anh stand out from many artists of the same age.

"The music that My Anh pursues is highly international. Language is no longer a barrier, because she uses the common language of global music," musician Anh Quan commented. According to him, the important thing is not to please the majority, but to be honest in creation.

For Anh Quan, what makes him most proud of his daughter is not the spotlight or international tours, but her independence and unique identity.

"In my family, children are always the top priority, but there is no such thing as spoiling them. If My Anh "acts recklessly", she will still be reminded as usual," the male musician humorously said.

With the mini show to launch the first English mini album in 2025 - Phases of the Moon, it can be said that this is a night of performance marking an emotional journey, where the female artist first performed 6 new songs in full in front of a large number of fans. The series of compositions includes: phases of the moon, Someday, Letting go, Over again and over again, Gentle, baby and Zero hesitation.

Opening the music night, My Anh shared: "This is not a grand show, but a space for us to feel the music in the most sincere way."

Not stopping at performing, My Anh also took time to interact with the audience. She talked about the composing process, the long nights of anxiety and the feeling of being "overwhelmed by her own emotions". Her honest sharing made the audience listen in silence, then burst into applause after each verse, showing the deep empathy between the artist and the audience.

"This mini album was born at a very special time in my life. That was when I learned to observe and name my emotions, whether they were pain, regret, or relief, hope. They come and go, like the waxing and waning moon, always changing, but also always returning," My Anh shared.

Before the official show on May 18, My Anh organized a series of fan meetings called Gentle Sundays every Sunday, lasting from April 20 to May 11 in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. This is an activity to connect closely with nearly 1,000 audiences before the mini album is released.

My Anh also revealed that this domestic activity is also a stepping stone for her upcoming international plans.
