Beijing's response comes in response to escalating US efforts to curb China's technological advances, analysts say.

China is now the world's leading producer of raw gallium, accounting for 95% of global output, which is used in the production of high-frequency surge-generating chipsets in 5G base stations, according to industry information provider Fierce Electronics.
According to data from the US Geological Survey (USGS), Kazakhstan, Hungary, Germany and Ukraine stopped producing gallium in 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2019 respectively. China's gallium accounts for the largest proportion, accounting for more than 90% of the world's production in 2021.
In October 2022, the US introduced export controls aimed at cutting off the world's second-largest economy 's access to advanced chips and semiconductor manufacturing equipment, and lobbied allies to adopt similar restrictions.
Last week, the Dutch government announced restrictions on exports of some advanced semiconductor equipment to China.
