According to VTC News , the reason for this strange phenomenon is that although the two islands are only 3.8km apart, one belongs to the US territory Little Diomede and the other belongs to Russia. In addition, the two continents have a 21-hour time difference, so when the big island enters a new day, residents on the island can see "yesterday" if they look at the small island.
