It is known that on July 26, 1993, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province signed Decision No. 804/QD-UBND officially establishing Nam Hai Lang High School. The establishment of Nam Hai Lang High School is an event marking the development of the Hai Lang education network, opening up a new opportunity to improve the knowledge of children in 5 southern communes of Hai Lang district.
On October 24, 2012, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province signed Decision No. 1988/QD-UBND to change the name of Nam Hai Lang High School to Bui Duc Tai High School. The school being named after the famous person, Dr. Bui Duc Tai, is not only a great honor for the Pedagogical Council and all students of the school, but it is also an aspiration to rise up of a studious land of Nam Hai Lang, in the heroic homeland of Hai Lang, Quang Tri.

After 30 years of construction and development, the past 10,000 days have been a journey full of aspirations, trust and memories, a strong step forward to affirm its position in the education system of the province. Bui Duc Tai High School has truly become a beloved school, a second home for many generations of teachers and students.

Over the past 30 years, with the tireless efforts of the entire staff, teachers, employees and students; the correct orientation and close leadership of the Party Cell and the School Board; the close attention of Party committees at all levels, local authorities, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri, parents and people of heroic Hai Lang, Bui Duc Tai High School has continuously developed in both facilities and education quality.
Overcoming difficulties and challenges, Bui Duc Tai High School has made great changes in terms of school size, teaching staff and education quality. Currently, the school has 19 high school classes with nearly 750 students.

In recent years, the school's graduation rate has always been over 95%, some years reaching 100%; the rate of good and excellent students is increasing; in the past 30 years, the school has won 7 national cultural awards; 35 national awards in other competitions; 4 regional awards in the Central Highlands; 374 provincial excellent student awards; 16 provincial excellent student team awards; the rate of students admitted to universities and colleges every year is always high, from 65 - 90%. Among them, many students are admitted to high-quality universities nationwide such as Da Nang University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy... Many students have graduated from university and are working in many different fields; In particular, many students have continued their teachers' careers and have graduated to teach at schools in and outside the province.
