Lam Dong implements the Prime Minister's telegram on promoting sustainable durian production and export

People in Da Huoai district harvest durian in the 2024 crop year. In the 2025 crop year, up to this point, people have begun to harvest sporadically, preparing to start the main harvest from June.

Accordingly , the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to preside over and coordinate with the People's Committees of districts and cities to organize durian production in the area in strict compliance with the regulations, processes and instructions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and in accordance with actual conditions; strictly control the newly planted area, prevent the situation of rapid increase in scale, disrupt the balance of crop structure, supply - demand balance and cases of abuse of forest land, sloping land or areas that do not meet the conditions for sustainable production.

Review and adjust the plan for developing durian growing areas in a concentrated, large-scale direction, facilitating the application of mechanization and high technology, meeting export standards; encourage the formation of specialized raw material areas.

Manage and monitor codes for growing areas and packaging facilities in the area; organize periodic or ad hoc inspections and supervisions to ensure that facilities and units granted codes comply with Vietnamese law and meet the requirements of the import market.

In addition, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will preside over and coordinate with the Department of Industry and Trade to guide and support industry associations, enterprises and cooperatives to form and develop sustainable chains in the production - processing - consumption - export of durian; have incentive mechanisms and incentives to attract investment in deep processing, cold storage, logistics, contributing to increasing the added value and competitiveness of products.

Strengthen inspection and comprehensive supervision of the durian production - packaging - consumption - export chain; guide the development of an internal monitoring system in growing areas and packaging facilities, ensuring stable operating conditions after being granted a code, and fully complying with technical regulations of Vietnam and import markets.

Currently , Lam Dong has a total durian area of 25,610 hectares, of which the pure planting area is 11,397 hectares and the intercropping area is 14,213 hectares with a total harvest output of 175,282 tons .

Regarding the export situation in 2024, durian export output is 25,518 tons, with a total turnover of about 104.15 million USD, an increase of 2.72 million USD compared to 2023. Of which, fresh durian exports reached 20,214 tons (accounting for 11.5% of the province's total durian output) and peeled durian 1,326 tons (equivalent to 5,304 tons of fresh durian), accounting for 3% of the province's total durian output. The Chinese market alone, the main consumer of Lam Dong province's durian exports, accounts for over 80%.

Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment said that up to now, no cases of durian contaminated with banned substances have been detected, Lam Dong durian products meet standards for the 2025 export market. Inspections showed that people strictly followed regulations on producing safe products and ensuring quality. Authorities also took samples for testing and did not detect durian contaminated with banned substances such as Auramine O, heavy metals Cadmium, lead and met standards for the export market.
