What to do to exploit customers from new visa policies?

Việt NamViệt Nam03/10/2023

The new visa policy that increases the length of stay for tourists will contribute to improving the competitiveness and attractiveness of Vietnam tourism to international visitors. However, according to travel agencies, to exploit customers from these new visa policies, it will take time to access the tourist markets.

The city's tourism industry needs to increase promotional activities and add more products to attract visitors from markets that exploit the new visa policy in the coming time. In the photo: International tourists visit the Sun World Ba Na Hills tourist area. Photo: NHAT HA

The Government 's new visa policy allows some countries to enter Vietnam visa-free from 15 days to 45 days and increases the validity of electronic visas (e-visas) from 30 days to 90 days with multiple entries.

According to Ms. Xa Doan Hong Thuy, Director of 4T Travel Company Limited, the Government's relaxation of visas and visa policies for some countries is a move showing its listening and determination to devote all resources and incentives to the recovery and development of the tourism industry after Covid-19.

This policy also helps Vietnam increase its competitiveness on the world tourism map, because visitors will have a longer stay than some countries in the region. International visitors can increase the length of their tour when coming to Vietnam. Products for international visitors to Vietnam, especially from distant markets such as Europe and the US, are mostly cross-country, so this new policy will benefit both tourism businesses and visitors...

Ms. Hong Thuy said that Da Nang is the tourism center of the Central region, located among world cultural heritages, with many attractive tourism products for visitors. However, the number of direct flights from distant markets to Da Nang is still limited. Therefore, increasing the position of the direct reception point through promotional activities (focusing on niche markets with high spending and long stay) is extremely necessary.

“After the pandemic, there have been many changes, so the city’s tourism industry needs to redefine Da Nang’s key tourist markets; at the same time, it is also necessary to create new products, establish tourism service supply chains suitable for those new tourist markets such as Indian tourists, Halal tourists…”, Ms. Thuy suggested.

To attract international visitors, the tourism industry needs to add more unique and attractive products. In the photo: International visitors visit and shop at Son Tra Night Market. Photo: NHAT HA

Sharing the same view, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Nam, General Director of Vietnam Travelmart Joint Stock Company, shared that as soon as the new policy of the Government was issued, the business immediately announced this information to partners near and far, especially direct customer markets that directly benefited from the policy and received positive responses from partners.

These are quite good signals for businesses exploiting international visitors to Vietnam in general, and Da Nang in particular. Because Da Nang's current international visitor markets are mainly Northeast Asia, within the ASEAN bloc, India...; visitor markets from Western Europe, America, Australia... often travel for long periods and to many destinations across the country or neighboring countries.

Therefore, the relaxed visa policy will facilitate businesses in building and designing tours for customers. The country with fewer barriers and more open and transparent policies will be the one tourists will choose to travel to.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nhu Nam, this is the season when international tourists go for winter and vacation, tourists from distant markets are often not as "timely" as those from nearby markets, meaning they go as soon as they have information. To prepare for the trip, tourists often make long-term plans from 6 months to 1 year.

When Vietnam's new policy is announced, what businesses need to do now is to connect with partners, share about the new policy, introduce and promote more about the destination as well as add more diverse products and services, more attractive destinations to compete with other destinations in the region.

If possible, we should create a chain of entertainment, shopping, dining, and experience products... imbued with local culture to stimulate tourists' experiences and exploration.

According to the representative of the Department of Tourism, the city’s tourism industry has made great efforts to attract international visitors to Da Nang. The city has organized promotional trips to potential tourism markets such as Japan, India, South Korea, etc. and connected with partners and airlines to open and resume international flights.

In the coming time, the tourism industry will continue to participate in international tourism fairs and investment promotion seminars in Australia and the Philippines to promote Da Nang tourism to foreign partners.
