In order to develop key fruit trees in the area, in recent years, the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) and related departments and branches have advised the Provincial People's Committee to implement many synchronous solutions to develop and enhance the value of key fruit trees. At the same time, every year, the DARD also directs specialized units to organize training courses on planting and caring for fruit trees. From 2024 to present, the department's specialized units have organized 12 training courses on fruit tree development for people in the province.
In addition, the People's Committees of districts and cities also support and guide people to develop and improve the quality of key fruit trees. Along with that, farmers proactively change production methods, apply science and technology such as: planting and caring for fruit trees according to VietGAP standards; using drip irrigation systems to care for trees... to continuously improve productivity and quality of crops.
Currently, the whole province has 4,585 hectares of custard apples grown in the districts of Chi Lang and Huu Lung, with a value of about 1,400 billion VND/year; 2,194 hectares of persimmons grown in Cao Loc and Van Lang, with a value of about 212 billion VND/year; citrus trees grown in the districts of Chi Lang, Huu Lung, Trang Dinh and Bac Son with an area of 3,316 hectares, with a value of about 130 billion VND/year... |
Huu Lung is one of the typical districts in fruit tree development. Ms. Linh Thu Huong, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Huu Lung district, said: In recent years, in order to develop key fruit trees, since 2016, the department has focused on guiding and supporting people to produce in a safe direction, according to VietGAP standards; coordinating with related units to organize integrated training courses on planting techniques, care, and pest control on fruit trees. At the same time, building OCOP products (One Commune One Product program) for fruits... Thanks to that, up to now, the whole district has over 1,700 hectares of custard apples, of which over 488 hectares are produced according to VietGAP standards, with an output of 12,000 - 13,000 tons/year; over 445 hectares of grapefruit, with an output of over 400 tons/year. In addition, up to now, the whole district has developed 3 custard apple products of 3 cooperatives that have achieved 3-star OCOP, thereby contributing to expanding the consumption market and increasing product competitiveness.
Not only Huu Lung, the planting and development of key fruit trees according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards are also being focused on by districts and cities. Currently, the whole province has more than 1,600 hectares of custard apples (an increase of over 600 hectares compared to 2022); more than 500 hectares of persimmons (an increase of over 170 hectares compared to 2022) and more than 946 hectares of citrus fruit trees (an increase of over 350 hectares compared to 2022) produced according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
Along with changing the production process to improve product quality, specialized units and districts and cities have also promoted the issuance of growing area codes for key fruit trees. Accordingly, relevant units focus on surveying and guiding farmers to cultivate according to technical processes to ensure the conditions for granting growing area codes. Currently, in the province, competent authorities have issued 5 growing area codes for export of custard apples and grapefruits in Huu Lung and Chi Lang districts; 10 domestic growing area codes for persimmons, custard apples, and citrus trees in Bac Son, Loc Binh, Chi Lang, Huu Lung, and Van Quan districts. Thereby, contributing to expanding the market, creating conditions for products to reach the international market.
An important solution in developing key fruit trees is to build brands, promote and develop markets for products. Specifically, since the implementation of the OCOP program (2019) up to now, the province has had 12 key fruit products (custard apple, persimmon, tangerine) of 12 entities achieving 3-star and 4-star OCOP. At the same time, specialized sectors and People's Committees of districts and cities have also focused on promoting and promoting key agricultural products through specific activities such as: organizing the Chi Lang Custard Apple Festival and the week of promoting and connecting the consumption of Chi Lang Custard Apple in Hanoi ; Bac Son Golden Tangerine Festival; Huu Lung District Fresh Fruit Festival; Van Lang District Persimmon Competition... Thanks to that, the consumption market has been expanded to many provinces and cities across the country.
The development of key fruit trees has clearly formed concentrated fruit growing areas with high value, contributing to increasing people's income, many households have an income of 100 - 300 million VND/household/year. Currently, the whole province has 4,585 hectares of custard apples concentrated in the districts of Chi Lang and Huu Lung, with a value of about 1,400 billion VND/year; 2,194 hectares of persimmons concentrated in Cao Loc and Van Lang, with a value of about 212 billion VND/year; citrus trees are grown in the districts of Chi Lang, Huu Lung, Trang Dinh and Bac Son with an area of 3,316 hectares, with a value of about 130 billion VND/year.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, Chi Lang commune, Chi Lang district said: My family has been growing custard apples for more than 30 years but in small quantities. By 2010, I had expanded the planting to 400 trees and up to now, my family has 700 custard apple trees. During the process of expanding the planting area, I was supported by the commune government and the district's professional unit in training on custard apple care techniques according to VietGAP standards, and at the same time, I was supported with an automatic irrigation system. In parallel with growing custard apples, my family also planted 150 Dien grapefruit trees, and so far, the trees have produced stable harvests. On average, each year, my family harvests about 10 tons of custard apples and more than 7,000 grapefruits, earning over 300 million VND/year after deducting expenses.
Ms. Dinh Thi Thu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: In order to develop key fruit trees, in the coming time, the Department will continue to direct specialized departments to coordinate with specialized units of districts and cities to guide people to increase the application of science and technology in production associated with intellectual property protection, brand building to increase value; expand the area of fruit trees according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards. At the same time, continue to research and implement solutions to build agricultural value chains, in which choosing to build a concentrated chain with the participation of enterprises, cooperatives, and cooperative groups with a form of close linkage; focus on investing in processing and deep processing of products to increase value.
The development of key fruit trees in the province has been focused on by all levels, sectors and people, contributing to improving product quality, expanding consumption markets, helping people feel secure in developing production and increasing income. Thereby, contributing to the socio-economic development and new rural construction in the province.
