Lamine Yamal scores, Barcelona tries to catch up with Real Madrid

(Dan Tri) - Barcelona won 3-1 against Elche in round 11 of La Liga at the Olympic Lluis Companys stadium on the morning of November 3, thereby reducing the gap to 5 points with the top team Real Madrid.

Welcoming Elche at home, Barcelona is determined to win all 3 points. Coach Hansi Flick sent out strikers Rashford, Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres while De Jong, Casado, Fermin Lopez played in midfield.

After losing to Real Madrid in the El Clasico last weekend, Barcelona could not afford to drop points and they pushed their squad up to pressure Elche. In the 9th minute, Yamal received a pass from Balde before finishing past goalkeeper Pena to give Barcelona a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later, an Elche defender made a mistake, creating an opportunity for Fermin Lopez to set up Ferran Torres to double the gap for the home team. Leading by 2 goals after just over 10 minutes, Barcelona played complacently and let their opponents regain control of the game.

Elche suddenly pressed the field and they narrowed the gap to 1-2 thanks to Rafa Mir in the 42nd minute. Barcelona had the advantage in the first half and they regained dominance in the second half, notably Rashford's shot that went wide of the post in the 47th minute.

In the 52nd minute, Rashford scored against Elche but the goal was disallowed because Fermin Lopez had been offside. Three minutes later, Barcelona's defense was shocked when Rafa Mir hit the crossbar while goalkeeper Szczesny stood by.

Elche's hopes of equalizing were extinguished in the 61st minute when Rashford made a good individual move before shooting from a tight angle that hit the underside of the crossbar to give Barcelona a 3-1 lead. Rafa Mir once again found the post of Barcelona's goal but Elche could not create a surprise.

Beating Elche 3-1 at home, Barcelona got 25 points/11 matches, took back second place in La Liga from Villarreal and narrowed the gap with top team Real Madrid to 5 points.
