
A series of national highways in the Central region are being eroded and flooded, leading to traffic jams. Forces are making every effort to restore traffic as soon as possible and minimize damage caused by floods.
According to statistics from the Vietnam Road Administration, there are currently 24 traffic jams on the national highways managed by the central government. The routes from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri are now completely clear.
Currently, Hue city still has 7 traffic jams on the West branch of Ho Chi Minh road.
Da Nang City still has 14 traffic jams, including: Truong Son Dong Street has 8 remaining jams, including 4 new jams, expected to open to traffic before 5:00 p.m. today.
The La Son-Hoa Lien route has 3 blocked locations at Km41+400, Km42+800, expected to open to traffic within the day; especially for Km50+700-Km50+800 due to longitudinal cracks in the roadbed, the Road Management Department has temporarily banned traffic and diverted traffic through the Hai Van-Tuy Loan tunnel and National Highway 1.
Ho Chi Minh Road through Lo Xo Pass has opened one lane, but traffic safety authorities recommend vehicles travel via National Highway 19 and National Highway 24 to avoid the potential high risk of landslides.
In addition, all three localities of Hue city, Da Nang city and Quang Tri province have opened National Highway 1 to traffic.
Regarding national highways managed by localities, Mr. Nguyen Manh Thang, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Road Administration, said there are still 26 traffic jams.
Specifically, Quang Tri province still has 3 locations on National Highway 15 at Km562+100 due to flooding 0.7m deep; National Highway 49C at Km33+600-Km35+500 and Km36+750-Km41+076, due to flooding 30-50cm deep.
Hue City still has 2 traffic jams on National Highway 49B at Km5+900-Km10+300 and Lim 1 bridge is temporarily flooded, traffic has been diverted to Minh Mang-Vo Van Kiet route.
Da Nang City still has 21 blocked locations at Km84+400-Km84+850 on National Highway 14E due to landslides on the positive slope; on National Highway 14H, it is blocked at Km65+400 due to 1m of flooding at Khe Rinh Bridge; landslides on the positive slope on National Highway 24C include 17 locations at Km80+400-Km84+250, more seriously, there are 12 new landslides among the 17 blocked locations. National Highway 40B still has 2 blocked locations at Km82+500 and Km1230-Km124. National Highway 40B is expected to open to traffic today.
Emphasizing that a working group has been established under the direct command of the leaders of the Vietnam Road Administration at the scene in the Central provinces, according to Mr. Thang, the units are mobilizing maximum forces, equipment and spare materials, of which nearly 10,000 stone cages have been transferred to Hue, Da Nang and Quang Ngai to serve the repair of infrastructure damage.
“The Vietnam Road Administration always maintains a 24/7 command and promptly issues instructions and resolves difficulties for localities. The forces are making maximum efforts to soon restore traffic and minimize socio-economic damage caused by floods,” Mr. Thang affirmed.
Due to the continued heavy rain and high risk of landslides, the Vietnam Road Administration recommends that people and vehicles travel cautiously and follow traffic instructions to ensure safety.
