According to records, over the years, Cu Pui commune (formerly Cu Pui and Hoa Phong communes) has often been heavily affected by natural disasters such as tornadoes, flash floods, inundation and landslides. In particular, in 2016, heavy rains and floods caused landslides in village 1 (former Hoa Phong commune), burying and damaging 8 houses.
In recent years, weather conditions have become increasingly extreme, with storms moving further inland; in 2023 - 2024 alone, storms have blown off the roofs of more than 100 houses and damaged about 5,665 hectares of crops in the commune.

To proactively respond to storm No. 13, the Commune People's Committee has directed the review and inspection of vulnerable areas, especially along rivers, streams, dams, areas at risk of landslides, flooding and important traffic routes. The working group has inspected some high-risk locations to grasp the situation and promptly deploy plans to ensure people's safety.
The commune requested villages and hamlets to urgently inform people to harvest agricultural products early, reinforce and brace houses; arrange guards and checkpoints at underground points, spillways, deep flooded areas, and fast-flowing water; absolutely do not let people and vehicles pass when it is unsafe. At the same time, dredge and clear the flow at poor drainage locations that can easily cause local flooding.
There are currently 8 irrigation works in the area (4 dams, 1 pumping station, 3 reservoirs) with a total capacity of about 438,100 m³, serving irrigation for more than 693 hectares of crops. Through review, there are 2 residential areas at risk of being isolated and many points at risk of landslides if heavy rain continues.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Huynh Duy Trung Commune emphasized that the highest goal is to ensure the safety of people's lives. If necessary, the locality will resolutely enforce evacuation in areas at risk of landslides and deep flooding to ensure absolute safety for the people.
