In an interview with El Correo (Argentina) on August 16, midfielder Facundo Garces admitted that his “grandfather is Malaysian”. However, when questioned about his “three-generation roots” in Malaysia, the Argentine player quickly corrected himself to “his grandfather is Malaysian”.

It was Facundo Garces’s actions at that time that made many people doubt the true origin of this player. That unintentionally “stimulated” the Argentine press to participate in the investigation into the origin of the star who is playing for Alaves Club in La Liga (Spain).
Recently, the Capital de Noticias (Argentina) newspaper exposed all the truth. According to the investigation of this newspaper, Facundo Garces' grandfather, Carlos Rogelio Fernandez, was born in Argentina and also had an Argentine mother. That means that Facundo Garces has no Malaysian ancestry whatsoever.
“A large-scale FIFA investigation has exposed fraudulent acts in the birth records of several players who play for the Malaysian national team, including two Argentinians, Facundo Garces and Imanol Machuca. According to documents obtained by Capital de Noticias, the birth certificates used to prove their Malaysian origin were falsified,” the Argentine newspaper stressed.
The newspaper continued to prove Facundo Garces's origin: "The case of Facundo Garces is a typical example. The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirmed that his grandfather, Carlos Rogelio Fernandez, was born on May 29, 1930, on Penang Island (Malaysia). However, a copy of the original birth certificate provided to FIFA by the Civil Registry of Santa Fe Province (Argentina) proves otherwise. Mr. Fernandez was born in Villa Maria Selva, Santa Fe City, more than 14,000km away from Malaysia.

Documents show that Facundo Garces' grandfather was born in Argentina (Photo: CDN).
The date of birth is real, but the place of birth is completely faked. The document clearly states: “Dona Sebastiana Justa Fernandez (Facundo Garces’ great-grandmother), 26 years old, Argentinean, residing in Villa Maria Selva, gave birth to a boy at her home at 6:30 p.m. on May 29, 1930.” In other words, Mr. Fernandez’s mother, who is also Facundo Garces’ great-grandmother, is Argentinean, and has no Malaysian ancestry as FAM claimed.
The birth certificate also listed the name of Don Cipriano Garces, who later became Sebastiana’s husband, as a Spanish businessman. Thus, neither of Facundo Garces’s paternal nor maternal sides had any connection with Malaysia.”
This means that even Facundo Garces’s statement that “there is a Malaysian” is incorrect. The Argentine press believes that the 25-year-old midfielder’s lies have come to light.
According to Capital de Noticias, striker Imanol Machuca has no connection to Malaysia. According to FAM records, his grandmother was born in Penang (Malaysia), and is actually 100% Argentinian. His grandmother was identified as being born in Roldan, Santa Fe province (Argentina).

Dutch documents show that Hendrik Jan Hevel was born in the Netherlands, not Malaysia (Photo: Suara).
Previously, Suara (Indonesia) had investigated the origin of player Hector Hevel. The newspaper in the archipelago country published a nearly 100-year-old file archived on the Wiewaswie (Netherlands) website showing that Mr. Hendrik Jan Hevel (Hector Hevel's grandfather) was born in The Hague (Netherlands). This coincides with FIFA's investigation. Previously, Malaysia had clearly stated that Mr. Hendrik Jan Hevel was born in Malacca (Malaysia).
In recent days, the Malaysian public and press have been waiting for FIFA’s final decision on FAM. However, according to Malaysian experts, the chances of FAM’s appeal being successful are quite low because FIFA has concrete evidence related to the 7 naturalized players.
