Miss Universe 2025 contest explodes with controversy just 2 days after launch

(Dan Tri) - The Miss Universe 2025 pageant officially kicked off on November 2 in Thailand with the participation of more than 100 contestants. After only 2 days, controversy broke out and caused the pageant to soon face turmoil.

As one of the three largest beauty pageants in the world , Miss Universe always attracts special attention from fans.

This year’s competition attracted attention when Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil - President of Miss Grand International Organization - and his team took on the role of co-organizer. Many people expect this to be an explosive season in terms of scale and form.

Immediately after its launch, the contest was embroiled in controversy when the Miss Universe Organizing Committee (MUO) and the host organization Miss Universe Thailand (MUT) - headed by Mr. Nawat - publicly argued.

The reason for this is the online voting campaign called “Special Dinner and Chat” launched by MUT. This activity encourages the audience to interact (like, share, comment) with the contestants’ photos on MUT’s Facebook page. The top 10 beauties with the highest interaction will be invited to a party and have a private conversation with Mr. Nawat.

After only 20 hours of launching, Vietnam's representative - Miss Huong Giang - entered the leading group with nearly 900,000 interactions. However, on November 3, MUO suddenly announced that this campaign was "illegal, unlicensed and not within the framework of the contest".

“Any promotional activities, voting or online programs under the name of Miss Universe, including the above event, are not authorized and do not represent the official values ​​and activities of the Organizing Committee,” MUO said in a statement.

On November 3, MUT responded strongly. Mr. Nawat affirmed that the voting campaign was part of the official communication plan of the host country, Thailand.

According to MUT, they are fully authorized to conduct promotional activities within Thailand and said they are considering legal aspects, not excluding the possibility of suing MUO.

“MUO’s announcement has caused confusion among the public. Our actions are completely within the scope of the authority given to the host organization. The legal department will review the potential impact on the Thai sponsor and take steps if necessary,” MUT said in a statement.

On the evening of November 3, Thai media reported that Mr. Nawat had reported to the police and requested an investigation into a company allegedly involved in online gambling, which is currently a sponsor of the Miss Universe 2025 pageant.

The conflict between MUT and MUO is receiving special attention from the international beauty pageant community. Fans are waiting for official information from both sides and continuously expressing concerns about the risk of Miss Universe 2025 being postponed.

The Miss Universe 2025 final is scheduled to take place on November 21. This year's season brings together many potential contestants, possessing outstanding performance skills and communication abilities.

Vietnam's representative - Nguyen Huong Giang - is the first transgender contestant in the history of the Miss Universe pageant from Vietnam and also the first transgender contestant from Asia to participate in this arena. Her appearance received great attention from the public at home and abroad.
