Couple risked their lives to hold onto baby girl who was about to fall off 60m high roller coaster

(Dan Tri) - A roller coaster ride at an amusement park in Missouri (USA) turned into a horror when a little girl slipped out of her seatbelt while the ride was running at a height of dozens of meters.

According to local media, the incident happened on the Mamba roller coaster - the tallest ride at Worlds of Fun park (Kansas City) - on October 11. Chris and Cassie Evans - a local couple - said that they were sitting on the ride when they suddenly heard a "heart-wrenching" scream from behind.

“As the ride started to climb the first peak, the little girl sitting behind my wife let out a loud scream. At first I thought it was just her fear of the ride, but then she screamed that her seatbelt had come off,” said Chris.

Both said they were regulars at the park and understood the structure of the ride quite well, so they immediately tried to keep the girl safe while the train was still rushing through the curves and steep slopes.

“I reached through the safety barrier and held her wrists, while my wife held her legs. Every time the train went down or started to climb, I could feel her body being lifted off the seat. I had to change my position, from holding her to using force to press her whole body down, so she wouldn’t be thrown out,” Chris said.

Thanks to the couple’s quick reaction, the girl was safe until the train ride ended. They then reported the incident to the park management, but never saw her again.

The park said that immediately after receiving the report, they temporarily suspended the ride to check the entire safety system, before reopening it that evening.

“After receiving the complaint, the technical team immediately stopped the train and conducted a thorough inspection. The multi-layered safety system, of which the crossbar is the main device, was confirmed to be operating normally through multiple inspections,” a park spokesperson said.

The ride has since undergone a comprehensive safety review and made several adjustments as requested by the Fire Department, to ensure compliance with current safety standards, the department said.

“The safety of our visitors and staff is always our top priority,” the park representative emphasized.

Meanwhile, Cassie Evans - mother of four children - said that the above experience was "truly terrifying" for her. "That scream, I have never heard such a scary sound in my life," she said, choking up.

She said she and her husband will not be returning to the park anytime soon, at least until they see “a clear change” in safety.

“We probably won’t be going back anytime soon. I need to see changes and only then will I feel comfortable taking my four children there – which I absolutely can’t do right now,” she said.
