This is considered an important step in Etihad's global network expansion strategy, while opening up opportunities for more convenient connections between two dynamically developing regions.
According to Etihad, the new route will operate six flights per week, providing more options for Vietnamese passengers on business, leisure and international connections. The route will be operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
With this route, passengers from Hanoi can easily connect to many destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and North America via the Abu Dhabi hub. In return, tourists from the UAE and many other countries also have more opportunities to explore Vietnam, one of the outstanding tourist destinations in Asia.

Speaking about the event, Mr. Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, said that the launch of direct flights from Hanoi is an “important milestone” in the airline’s expansion journey: “We are very pleased to welcome Vietnamese tourists to Abu Dhabi, a dynamic city with a rich identity and increasingly affirming its position as a tourism and commercial center of the region.”
Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, is emerging as a global destination thanks to its blend of traditional culture and modern development.
Visitors can visit iconic structures such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Yas Island amusement park or luxury beaches and resorts.
In 2025, international arrivals to Abu Dhabi will continue to grow strongly, with Etihad alone contributing nearly 45% of the UAE's aviation growth.
Besides serving passengers, the Hanoi-Abu Dhabi route also contributes to enhancing cargo transportation capacity between the two countries.

Etihad Cargo, the airline’s logistics arm, has been operating in Vietnam for over 11 years with five regular cargo flights using Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft. The addition of passenger flights will help increase cargo capacity in the belly compartment, serving the export needs of the electronics, textile, seafood and agricultural industries, while promoting the import of high-quality goods from the Middle East and other markets.
As an international logistics hub, Abu Dhabi plays an important role as a gateway for goods from Vietnam to quickly connect to Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This move is in line with the direction of promoting trade, tourism and bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE, two economies that are increasingly strengthening relations in many fields.
Etihad’s opening of a direct flight from Hanoi to Abu Dhabi not only contributes to completing the air transport network between Vietnam and the Middle East but also creates more momentum for tourism development, trade and cultural exchange between the two regions. This is expected to become one of Etihad’s strategic routes in Southeast Asia in the near future.
