• Charity Hair Salon

The Smile Change Hair Salon was born from the idea of Pham Nhat Phuong, owner of Shine Men Hair Salon (Tan Thanh Ward). Initially, the group had only 2 members, but now the group has more than 20 members. With enthusiasm and love for workers, poor students, disabled people, lonely elderly people..., they do not hesitate to go to poor working-class neighborhoods, boarding houses... to serve people in difficulty.

Rain or shine, Pham Nhat Phuong's (right cover) and volunteers' mobile hair salon remains open.

Pham Nhat Phuong shared: “Since I was learning the profession, I have thought about starting my own business and organizing free haircuts for people, especially poor workers, orphans... Now, I have achieved my dream. When I cut hair, I don't need any remuneration, just receiving smiles from people is enough to make me happy.”

At the shop, there are no price lists, no commercial offers, only friendly smiles to receive joy and warmth in the heart. With this humanistic meaning, the group has increasingly attracted more members, who are young people learning the profession, wishing to spread good things in life. Not only serving at the shop, the group also regularly organizes mobile haircutting trips to remote areas to serve the people; haircuts for patients at the Psychiatric Department of Ca Mau General Hospital ...

The hair salon's customers are poor people, children from working-class neighborhoods...

“We are divided into two groups, one working at the salon and the other going on a mobile haircutting trip 2-3 times a week. The trips are sometimes difficult due to the weather, the sun is too hot and we have to move the chosen location, or while cutting hair it rains and we have to find shelter on the porch or in people's houses to continue serving customers. What makes us happy is that many people come to us, everyone happily waits to get the haircut they want,” Pham Nhat Phuong said about the group's journey to change smiles.

After more than 5 years of operation, the Smile Hair Salon has become a familiar address for many people in Ca Mau. Not only does it beautify hair, it also spreads the spirit of kindness, arousing the sense of sharing in the community, especially among young people.

Dao Quang Duy, a fitness trainer and member of a hair salon, shared: "I recently learned how to cut hair. Joining the mobile hair cutting group, although it was a bit hard, I felt happy when the ladies and gentlemen sent me smiles as a thank you."

The shop is small, but has great meaning as each neat haircut and each smile here conveys a simple yet profound message: "Giving does not make us poorer, but makes life more radiant."

Mr. Ngo Quang Hieu, a lottery ticket seller living in Ly Van Lam Ward, said: "The cheapest haircut costs tens of thousands of dong each time, which is not a small amount for someone with an unstable income like me. So, having this free haircut helps us a lot. The guys are nice and enthusiastic, and cut my hair carefully, I am very satisfied."

A regular customer of the shop, Ms. To Thi Can, a trader in Hoa Thanh ward, happily said: "For a small trader like me, the cost of a haircut is also a problem, because there are many other expenses in the family. Before I knew about the hair salon, I cut my two children's hair at home, sometimes I cut it wrong and made them laugh at school. This whole year, thanks to the shop's staff, my two children have had free haircuts many times, they are very happy because they have beautiful, neat hair."

Receiving the sympathy and satisfaction of "special" customers, Pham Nhat Phuong and the members of the free haircut team feel even more warm-hearted and wish to spread this beautiful action to many localities in the province.

What I am most happy about is teaching my followers to understand the value of the profession, that not only do I bring beauty to my customers, but I also have to put my heart into it. Currently, in addition to 5-7 mobile hair salons in the central area of the province, I also participate in charity programs, working with people to go to remote areas. I hope to connect and participate in many programs to be able to support haircuts for more people,” Nhat Phuong said.
