At the reception, Director of the Department of State Protocol and Foreign Interpretation Pham Binh Dam congratulated Mr. James Nickel on his appointment as Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam.
Director Pham Binh Dam said that Mr. James Nickel, with many years of experience working in the diplomatic sector, will continue to promote and deepen the relationship between the two countries. At the same time, the leaders of the Department of State Protocol and Foreign Interpretation affirmed that they will cooperate with units in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and coordinate with the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam to help the Ambassador successfully complete his term of office.

Thanking Director Pham Binh Dam for taking the time to meet him, Mr. James Nickel affirmed that he will actively contribute to the Vietnam-Canada relationship to be continuously strengthened and developed in all fields.
Mr. James Nickel is a career diplomat who began his career at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1991. Here, he held positions in the Arms Control and Disarmament Department, the Asia- Pacific Economic Cooperation Department, Deputy Director of the Japan Department, and Director of the South Asia Department.
Mr. James Nickel, also a senior advisor to the Secretary of State and Director of the Bureau of North America, has served in many locations in Asia such as Japan and Indonesia, India, China and most recently in Taipei (China).
