The Vietnamese team will begin their journey at the AFF Cup 2024 with a match against Laos at 8 p.m. on December 9. In 4 of the last 5 AFF Cups, Vietnam defeated Laos and kept a clean sheet in the group stage. According to coach Kim Sang-sik, although the two teams have a difference in strength, it does not mean that the opening match will be "easy" for Vietnam.
"In the last time we met Laos, the Vietnamese team won 6-0. However, tomorrow's match is a difficult challenge that we must overcome. The Vietnamese team represents the country's flag and colors, so the whole team must try their best to get a good result. Let's go out and give 100% of our strength," coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed.
Coach Kim Sang-sik
The Laos team has improved in recent times, notably in the 1-1 draw with Thailand in November. Coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed that although Thailand does not have the strongest squad, it is undeniable that Laos has improved. "With the Korean coaching staff, they are getting stronger every day," Mr. Kim affirmed.
The match between coach Kim Sang-sik and his Lao counterpart Ha Hyeok-jun promises to be interesting as they both know each other and have competed against each other in the K-League. "I know coach Ha Hyeok-jun, because I met him in the K-League. Mr. Ha is helping Laos develop. I know coach Ha Hyeok-jun's in-depth and detailed style. It will be a very interesting and surprising match, but I have a plan. I hope the whole team will have good results."
The Vietnamese team has had 10 days of training in Korea. Combined with 3 days of training in Laos, the whole team has now completed assembling their playing style and personnel.
Vietnam team completes preparation process
Coach Kim Sang-sik confirmed that he watched the match between Cambodia and Malaysia with a score of 2-2 and assessed that the AFF Cup would be very interesting. As for the Vietnamese team, Mr. Kim emphasized: "10 days of training in Korea brought about effective tactics and personnel. The Vietnamese team must strive to do their best."
Coach Kim Sang-sik also hopes that Vietnamese fans in Laos will come to the stadium to "encourage" the players.
"The Vietnamese team is aware that many Vietnamese people both in the country and in Laos are very interested in this match. We will try our best for the fans, for the people, and must devote ourselves to bringing joy to everyone," coach Kim Sang-sik assessed.
Captain Do Duy Manh
Mr. Kim also said that the Vietnamese team has made a move for the next match against Indonesia. "The match with Laos is a stepping stone to prepare for the match with Indonesia. I know they are a strong opponent so I have to study them right now. Indonesia has a team of fast, young and talented players. We have to adapt quickly," concluded coach Kim Sang-sik.
For his part, new captain Do Duy Manh expressed: "For me, in any role, the members of the Vietnamese team must try 200% of their strength. Being trusted with the position of captain, I have a greater responsibility, together with my teammates and the coaching staff, we will strive to set goals and achieve them together. Fans are looking forward to the Vietnamese team in this tournament, so we must strive in all circumstances to win."
