(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Quang Ngai province is coordinating with relevant agencies to collect biological samples from more than 1,000 remains of martyrs whose information has not yet been identified.
On December 6th, the Quang Ngai Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs announced that it is coordinating with relevant agencies to collect biological samples from the remains of unidentified martyrs. This is to determine the DNA of each set of remains, which will serve as a basis for finding the relatives of these martyrs.
Collecting biological samples was challenging due to the long-term burial of the remains. Many graves were unsuitable for obtaining samples of the required quality. However, thanks to the efforts of the relevant units, the results were very positive.

Excavations of 1,096 graves of martyrs with unknown information revealed that 427 graves contained biological samples that met the required standards. These samples will undergo DNA testing, helping to identify the martyrs and their relatives.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Lan, Director of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Quang Ngai province, in 2024, Quang Ngai province will implement the collection of remains of unidentified martyrs buried in the Martyrs' Cemeteries of Nghia Thang commune (Tu Nghia district), Hanh Phuoc commune (Nghia Hanh district), Duc Phu commune (Mo Duc district), Tinh Minh commune (Son Tinh district) and Pho Hoa commune (Duc Pho town).
"The process of collecting samples and sending them for DNA testing is being carried out carefully and is expected to be completed in 2024. We are determined to do this well in order to honor the sacrifices of the martyrs who gave their lives for the country but whose information has not yet been identified," Ms. Lan said.
According to Ms. Lan, these samples will undergo DNA testing and be stored at the DNA Bank for unidentified martyrs and their relatives. This will serve as a basis for searching and comparing DNA samples to identify the identities and relatives of martyrs buried in unidentified graves.
