Festival of burning a 'mountain' of votive paper for villagers to get red in Hanoi

VietNamNetVietNamNet27/02/2024

The ceremony begins with the sound of bells and drums "calling" the elders to perform the ceremony, asking for blessings, then bringing the blessings to the communal house yard for people to take home with the meaning of bringing happiness, prosperity, and starting a new year of successful work. The amount of votive paper is divided equally into 3 tables, estimated at about 30-40kg of votive paper/table offered by the people.

Big difference compared to other festivals, although there are hundreds of people coming to ask for fire, there is no jostling or pushing to get fire, the villagers also share fire with each other. People inside share with people outside, people near give to people far away... showing the friendly village spirit.
