Nang Hai Festival in Tien Thanh Commune (Quang Hoa)

On April 19 (ie March 22 of the lunar calendar), in Hop Thanh hamlet, Tien Thanh commune (Quang Hoa), a traditional ethnic festival was held and the Nang Hai Festival was re-enacted, attracting a large number of people and tourists to come and watch.

In 2017, the Nang Hai Festival was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This is a type of folk performance that combines dance, singing and music in the cultural space of the village, serving the ritual of praying for blessings and good harvests.

The festival is held with the meaning of a custom of praying for a good harvest, welcoming the Moon down to earth on the night of January 30th of the lunar calendar and staying on earth until March 24th of the lunar calendar with local people dancing and singing. To prepare for the Nang Hai Festival, the villagers chose two beautiful girls to play the role of Nang Guong wearing a red dress and Nang So wearing a yellow dress. To commemorate Princess Tien Giao of the Mac Dynasty and invite the "Nang Hai" - the daughters of "Mother Moon" to come down to earth to visit the fields, houses, daily life and help the villagers in their work and livelihood, bless the people with favorable weather, good harvests, a prosperous and happy life.

People chose two beautiful girls to transform into Lady Hai and go down to earth to pray for a good harvest.

The festival consists of three main parts: the welcoming ceremony for Lady Hai, the praying ceremony and the farewell ceremony for Lady Hai. In addition, the festival features a variety of cultural, artistic and sports activities such as: displaying paintings and photos of the people and homeland of Cao Bang; performing and exchanging traditional folk songs; folk games: tug of war, throwing con; performing arts to celebrate the Party, celebrate spring, celebrate the renewal of the homeland; space to display and introduce culinary culture, local products...

The festival aims to promote and publicize the beauty of traditional culture and local ethnic identity, not only contributing to preserving traditional cultural values imbued with national cultural identity but also connecting the community, encouraging and creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere among the people to enthusiastically compete and work in production.
