Today, Vietnam's No. 1 chess player Le Quang Liem entered the third round of the 2025 Chess World Cup in Goa (India), facing American player Jeffery Xiong.

Jeffery Xiong was once considered an American chess prodigy when he achieved the title of Grandmaster at the age of 14. He was also in the top 10 players under 20 in the world and competed successfully in a number of international tournaments, so he is highly regarded.

Le Quang Liem and Jeffery Xiong know each other quite well because they have faced each other in both standard and rapid and blitz chess. At the CCA World Open in the US in 2019, Le Quang Liem defeated his opponent in standard chess. And at the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz Chess Tournament in 2021, also in the US, Jeffery Xiong was the one who defeated Vietnam's number 1 player.
