Thousands of tributes have been placed outside Anfield in recent weeks after Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva died in a car crash in Spain. Flowers, shirts, scarves, hats, artwork, flags and banners in memory of the players have been removed and sorted by Liverpool staff.
The memorial flowers are composted and fertilised in flower beds across the club grounds; shirts, scarves, flags etc are stored, while the remaining artifacts will be recycled by a specialist company and used to create a sculpture, a memorial monument to Jota.
A memorial to Jota will be placed outside Anfield, possibly in the same temporary memorial area. Liverpool have yet to reveal the design, but the No. 20 shirt is one option being considered. The Merseyside club previously announced that the No. 20 shirt would be retired permanently across all levels of the club in tribute to Jota, who scored 65 goals in 182 appearances.
Liverpool players will wear specially designed shirts with the "Diogo J 20" logo during their pre-season tour of Asia. Floral tributes will also be laid ahead of friendlies in Hong Kong, Yokohama and Anfield.
The 'Forever 20' logo will also appear on the bottom seam of the Liverpool 2025/26 kit. Fans can pay tribute to Jota by having 'Diogo J 20' printed on the back of their shirts in the club's stores. Proceeds will go to the LFC Foundation, Liverpool's official charity, which will then launch a community football programme in Jota's name.
